Need help with cabin odor, I am going crazy!

For the past 2 days whenever I enter my Car for the first time the cabin spells foul, like rotten garbage. As soon as I start to drive turn the A/c and or Fan on it's fine. But when I park and leave it for a bit the cabin fills up again with this smell. I changed the cabin filter today and I seached the entire car for any thing that could be rotting in it(fyi... no eating for drinking in my car at any time).

I know this has been posted many times but I just want to confirm this is my issue.

Can this be the mold issue in the vents or A/C coil? I always use the A/C in manual mode and never use the recycling buton.

Please Help

Did you check the thread posted above? Animals in the fresh air intake will cause a similar odor. Check underneath the passenger side cowl to see if you can smell anything. You also mention the smell goes away after running the fan---is your AC on recirculate or fresh air intake? If it is on recirc, try flipping over to fresh air and see if it stinks. Thats a dead giveaway to something under the cowl.
Another idea---if the smell is a musty, moldy type smell (as opposed to a rotting flesh/garbage type odor), you can check the rear seat area for moisture. There is a TSB for a known water leak issue under the rear seat where water comes in thru an improperly sealed wire harness.
Good luck.

Sounds like "monacm2" (the OP) has the opposite problem. If it was something in the cowling, the smell would be strongest with a/c on. However in this case with monacm2, his smell disappears when the a/c is on.

Have you checked the trunk *very* carefully? When buying groceries, we put the sacks in the trunk. The bags tip-over. Groceries roll-around in the trunk and become lost in the far reaches of the trunk. Cook in the trunk for a few days.... yummy. "something" is done.
