Need Help with Brake Rotor Screws

So, its that time where I need to change my rotors unfortunately, one of the screws holding the RF rotor is stripped/ rounded,..etc.

Long story short, I tried drilling out the head of the screw since it wasn't moving with my impact driver. After using the drill bit, part of it broke inside the screw.
Now of course, like the dumbass I am, i decided to use a grinder to cut a slit in the screw and remove. I ended up flattening the screw head and broken drill bit to the point where it looks flushed with the rotor.

I recently purchased some cobalt drill bits and plan on giving that a go.

I read some where you can MIG or TIG a nut onto the screw and you can remove that way. Not sure how common these tools are but I definitely dont have one.
can I take a propane torch and heat up that screw?......

Thanks for the help anyone can offer.

Just keep drilling it.
maybe less than an inch to go.

then, once past the head, I put the drill in reverse and hit it.
the bit will catch and unscrew the rotor screw.

then you can use a hammer to beat the rotor up to remove the stuck on rust

A propane torch certainly can't hurt. It shouldn't damage anything considering how hot the brakes get on a daily basis.

If you can get the rotor off and a new one on, does it matter if you just leave the 'junk' in there?

I know I left the shaft of a part of a screw in at least on of the rotor holes.

Didn't have part of a drill bit in it ( ) .... but same idea, right?

I would just keep grinding it down till the rotor comes off (the old rotor is junk anyways). After that either leave it in or grind it flat. Shouldn't make a difference. Good Luck

went through something like this. my brother cursed honda for the use of those wretched little screws. when he installed the new rotors he left the screws off saying they aren't necessary and no other car maker uses them except honda.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago when I did my rotors. I stripped the screw and broke a bit off in it. I ended up torching it then used a grinder to cut a slit and that worked.

Put some heat on it and see how it goes.

yeah it seems the lugs do all the work really keeping the rotor mated to the hub.

whenever i remove my wheels to rotate them the rotors are still free moving and i can wiggle them around (i.e. not seized to the hub). Screws i've read are just to hold them in during assembly which I can totally understand. it'd be annoying bolting on the brembo caliper with that thing jiggling about down the assembly line.

I agree with st_dot; keep grinding the rotor and screw till the screw head is gone, then pull the rotor off.
