Navigation Acting Up
Navigation Acting Up
So just this week my navigation started acting up. When the car is on, the navigation screen is stuck on the intro screen and never gets to the screen where you have to press OK. The strange thing is that when the car is just turned on to accessories (not turned on, no fans, etc) I can get past the screen where you press the OK button and then it shows a map. When you do this, the map shows up but it does not show the correct location.
Every once and a while when taking a drive, the navigation will work and the location is correct.
Any guesses on what is going on?

Pull the DVD out of the drive in the trunk and examine it for scoring/grooves.
There is a TSB on the DVD drive scoring the DVDs, ultimately causing Navi failure. If there is scoring on your Navi disc, the drive will have to be pulled and sent to an Alpine facility in Torrance, CA for repair; the cost of that repair is now @$360.
If there are no grooves or scoring on the DVD, try using a CD/DVD cleaner on the DVD drive. Another member partially disassembled his navi drive to do a gentle cleaning of the reader, which cured his Navi's problems without having to send the drive to Alpine.
G/L.
do you have a perfect circular scratch all the way around the face of the disc? if so, it's your nav drive failing and you'll need to send it to alpine or grow balls big enough to try and repair the mechanism yourself.

The disk was OK. Just a quick update... after a fun filled month of moving... I ended up pulling the dvd unit out of the trunk and sending it to Alpine. They sent it back and I just installed it. Everything is working fine now. Too bad the Alipne price to fix it jumped to $358. I guess it beats buying a new DVD unit.
