My TL vibrates while accelerating*need help*

Hi,

I have a Acura TL 04 auto and when i'm on the highway and i accelerate my car vibrate alot. But, when i'm on the cruise control at like 65 the car doesn't vibrate. The car vibrate only when I accelerate. What do you think the problem can be?

Thank you
Frank

Is it only at higher speeds or are you solely talking about when you accelerate? you may have a bent axle! put it on a lift and have someone accelerate the car a tad bit, and see if either of the front wheels wobble. if so, the fix won't be cheap unfortunately. good luck! keep us posted.

possible inner cv joints, i have replaced a few. i check them by accelerating hard on a freeway on ramp and if the whole car feels like its vibrating then i go from there.

That was my first thought as well

NOT. That would be experienced under braking, not accelleration

I came back from a ride and this is what it did.
Even if i'm at 2000rpm or 5000 rpm, when i'm in the WOT zone the car vibrate a lot on the front right side. But when I put the cruise control everything runs smooth.
So you guys think is the inner cv joints on the front right side?
Let me know
Thanks Frank

Had the same problem a few months ago. The dealer said I had a bent cv axle, but suggested that I replaced the left, right, and center. I had another shop replace the left and right axles and fixed the problem.

Alright, but when you mean axle you mean to replace this:
http://img.diytrade.com/cdimg/776868...t_Assembly.jpg
right? How much does it cost for you to replace the left and right?
Thanks

Not sure. Probably hit a bad pot hole or something. Also I use to accelerate hard into turn at intersection which is not good for the axles.

Hey man i have the same exact problem. This only happens from about 50-65 for me, if i go slower or faster, i do not feel a vibration, and it only happens when im accelerating, does this sound like bad cv axle?

Well guys,
I have notice that I have a vibration on the steering column, floorboard. The vibration is between 50-70mph. After 70mph the car runs smooth. I balanced and rotated the tires=no help. Even if I down shift to 4th gear the vibration is still there between 50-70mph. I have a 04 Acura TL 5AT...what should be the problem...

^^^Same problem here...Bad vibration between 50-75mph. swapped wheels and tires and no change. Has anyone figured out if this tends to be the inner cv joint or axle or all of the above? It is smooth under 50mph. I have an 06with 60k and don't know if I should take it to dealer or independent shop.

Any chance acura would cover a portion of the repair if it is an axle? A car with 60k and 3yrs old should not be having these issues.

I would definitely take it in if it's still under warranty. Let them worry about it...

Frank358fr: It seems you've narrowed your problem down. It's not the wheels or brakes. It's not the engine since it doesn't change w/ rpm. I'm less inclined to believe it's motor mounts since the vibration doesn't change w/ engine rpm. This leaves you with the Axles. Have you got underneath the car to check out the CV boots? If they tear and all the grease flies out, you can bet they will wear out sooner or later they will wear out. When an outer goes bad, typically all you experience is a clicking sound when making sharp turns (like U-turns). When an inner joint goes bad, you typically get vibration during acceleration.

If you can definitley tell it's the right side of the car, it may be worth it to replace the Axle. A lot of times you can find lifetime warranty axles at Autozone for under $100. I don't know if they care them for this car.

based on the number of views and the numerous posts all over this website - this is clearly an issue that "many" of us experience on a regular basis. I've had my car 4 wheel balanced twice, 3 sets of new tires, numerous tire balancing and nothing has ever solved my car from pulling and vibrating. It's always better and in some cases seemingly "solved" but it always quickly returns. I have the original factory rims and have always wondered if they are the culprit. I would be curious to know if anyone had the pulling/vibrations issues with factory rims and then to see them go away after they replaced with after markets? I've long accepted the fact that I can't make the issue go away short of taking it to the dealer and letting them trial and error it to death - I'm just not willing to pay them for this process.

My symptoms have not changed since going with an aftermarket 18" wheel and new tires. I am planning at some point to take it to either an acura or honda dealership to have the front axle and joints inspected.

Thanks for your help but you think the problem can be the axle even if the vibration is ONLY between 50-70mph when acceleration?

I just had 4 new tires installed by Acura. Balanced and aligned and the car just started vibrating after 1,500 miles. I've never had that problem before. It seem to happen suddenly last week while driving. It happens between 60-65 mph with me. Below that speed nothing. Above it, nothing. I was thinking a wheel weight flew off. The reason I was thinking wheel weights is because the week before I heard some noises while driving. It sounded something small, metallic hitting the inside of the wheel well. I can't be sure. But I heard it a few times on a few different days. Then the vibration issue started. What do you guys think? It only vibrates between 60 and 65 mph.

Actually, the tire wasn't balance, so I balance it and the car doesn't vibrate anymore

Sorry to Zombie thread bump this bish but Its the only one i found regarding the topic.

I went for a little jaunt in the mountains today and noticed the front end of the TL is shaking when i hit 60-65MPH on acceleration in the straights, I know well enough to say it is not the tires because balance is balance, they would be shaking if i was idle at 65MPH but this shaking is only upon acceleration, its the front end only and its side to side.

I am slightly inclined to think the motor mounts are shitting out on me it is an 04 with 215K miles but there are people on here with more experience on these cars than me so what do you guys think?

Specs:
2004 tl 6 speed 215K miles Already has new tires mounted and balanced.

shaking and swaying from side to side???
sounds like an alignment problem.

take a look at the motor mounts, the fronts and side go out quickly and you've probably been driving with bad motor mounts for a long time.

Just the guy I was hoping would see this, Not swaying, vibration side to side, the alignment is spot on dead center she does not pull at all on a flat surface and if there is a lean on any side of the road it will pull to that side.

I was thinking the motor mounts, i don't have a manual or anything for this car and have never worked on a Honda where the hell are they and how many?

Ive had the car for 3 weeks but its good to know i need to fix this stuff before i go to the track.

yeah, the motor mounts are probably shot.
there's 3 of them, one front and center. one to the passenger side, and one in the center rear.

tracking the car?
upgrade to the XLR8 motor mounts. the poly inserts are fantastic and will not donut.
the xlr8 mounts are also designed different......
the stock ones are designed to break!!!! (stupid Honda)

I just upgraded to the XLR8 75a motor mounts and I love how the car shifts(6MT) now.

Not full on track but i like to get dicey in corners and its much safer to do it in a controlled environment rather than my local twisties.

Upgraded mounts would definitely be the better option, do you have a quick and dirty how you replaced yours, no need to get in depth i am a mech by trade i can figure shit out really easily.

I had a pulsing vibration when I bough my car. Ended up being a wheel bearing. It deffinately could be the mounts as well with your mileage. Mine are at 85k and the passenger side looks pretty torn already.
