A forged bottom end will prolong how long it takes to blow but it will still blow. Tuning is the answer. Detonation will kill even the strongest bottom ends eventually. I've destroyed a couple TRW forged pistons from detonation.

Sounds like meth injection is the best way to go to prevent det with the s/c... I'm surprised C/T Engineering isn't addressing this problem. I don't know how hard you guys run your boosted TL's or the octane all of you are using but I say if it's approved for use it shouldn't cause failures like these.. JMO.

Many of the people who boost their TL's are very hard on them. With all this Hp it is hard not to use it. If you drive any car like you stole it all the time, stuff with break, the blower just makes it easier to rip on.
I have found myself slowing down and letting people get a huge lead just so I can use the boost for more than a second. 4th pulls so hard, I too have been caught in the moment.

True, I'm guilty as well.

But think about it this way. Cylinder pressure is what puts a strain on everything from pistons to rods to the crank. When you run into detonation, you're putting close to 2-3 times the cylinder pressure on everything. It would the equivilent to making 600-900hp worth of pressure on the internals briefly. That's why it blows without proper tuning. A steady 300whp with no detonation isn't going to hurt a thing.

No, most of us are just starting to run the chemical intercooling of methanol. Another member had a intercooler hooked up but had some issues with boost leaks.

The kits start at $400 for the AEM water/meth, Snow performance kits are about $465, also water/meth mix and Alky Controls straight meth injection looks like $500-600 range.

No, you can save $500 now and pay $5,000 later for a new engine when it blows. Seriously though, it's the only safe way to run a supercharger.

you're lucky it was the top end.. make sure they replace your head gasket too.. heck I'd do a port & polish if they're just doing a valve job.

That sounds a little fishy. The valves can get burned but they can't "blow". The headgasket can blow but the head can't blow.

If your injectors started leaning it out, you could've burned a valve and blown a headgasket. Just be prepared for the damage that might've already been done to the pistons and bottom end. I would ask to inspect the pistons while the heads are off. In fact, I wouldn't take the car back without inspecting it first. Very important. What's going to happen is a piston will eventually let go from the damage that's (possibly) already done and then they're not going to cover it a second time.

The 5 gal tank is trunk mounted but IMO more for cars using alot of meth. Most of us are using the stock windshield washer tank which is 1 gal and alot cleaner of a set up.
