My rattle saga

Hello eveyone I am new here. I just bought my 08 Type S on December 3 and have had the dreaded rattle problems since day 1. When I drove it off the lot the night I purchased it I kind of wrote it off like eh its a new car it won't be that bad but the next day I drove my car it sounded like there was a mouse in my dash board scratching to get out! So one day after I bought the car I took it in for the rattle and they gave it back to me saying it was "fixed" but that same night the rattle returns. The next week I take my car back in and they work on it for a couple of days then I get the car back. A day latter the "mouse" rattle returns. I take my car back again and they work on it for an entire week. Again the rattle comes back. So now it's the third time taking it in. When I go to pick up my car this time they say they took the entire dash appart and padded it and test drove the car thoroughly. I even spoke to the tech and shop supervisor who pledge they are 100% sure the rattle is gone. This is right before xmas and took a road trip and guess what the DAMN rattle returns. I took it in again this past wednesday for the 4th time and this time they have ordered an entire dash board from Acura to replace the whole thing. I have read various threads on the notorious TL rattles but I hope this is the final fix for me and I can finally enjoy my car. I had the car for almost 4 weeks but most of the time it has been at the dealership. One cool thing is the free loaner car.

So frustrated!

Anyone have any luck with getting the entire dash replaced to fix their rattles? If so did it ultimately help?

Welcome. TL-S is the car to have. Post some pics so we can all

The new dash will probably have the driver side vent rattle.

Just kidding; and if it does, it's an easy fix.

Happy to say the only rattles I've had are from the crap my wife leaves in the various storage bins/trays/compartments.

good luck....i have a headliner rattle that has been "fixed" 3 times to date, and its going back again...they have fixed my steering wheel rattle to my satisfaction, and the vent rattle...i will try to be patient, but its had when your dealing with a 40k car...my biggest problem with taking my car in, is that everytime i get it back there is some scratch or something of that nature...bottom line when taking a car in for service is that the car isnt theirs, so they really dont care about it....its just another ticket they need to finish up so they can get to the next one...i hate that!!

I got my 08 TL in Nov. I knew about the rattle problems with Acura/Honda. I told the Sale that I am going to test drive until I found one that has no rattle. I test drove 3 TL's in total. The first one had rattle around the central console. The third one had really bad rattle on the head-liner. The 2nd one, which is the one I got was the quietest, or so I thought.

Around 300 miles, the driver's side air vent started to rattle. And then arond the radio/console area. I might try to fix the drive-side vent rattle myself. Minimize the chances of the dealer screwing up even more, or out-straight being lied to.

Hey Vinnier6, where exactly is your headliner rattle? Mine was just forward of the garage door opener buttons. I took apart that area and figure out it was the clip that holds the passenger side sun visor! If I pressed on it, it would make the clicking sound. I sprayed some silicon lubricant and the rattle is gone.

I am rattle free since last Friday! They replaced the entire dash and test drove it forever they even gave me free tint and a free oil change when my first service is due! I am crossing my fingers that it won't come back! I have that new car feel once again

Your story sounds just like mine. Every time I take the car in for work it comes back with more problems. I wrote a story on this forum about it.

Are you going to do anything about it? I think that someone at Acura should make good on their product.

I also have the driver side vent rattle. Any idea how to fix this without taking it to the dealer?

Pull the vent off, get yourself some of the thin foam weather stripping thats sticky on one side. Apply where the vent makes contact with the dash and hope it works. It seems to have solved my vent rattle.......door rattle, shifter trim rattle, etc. etc.

I think I get some minor rattles on my 07 TL but switching from a 1996 Pontiac Grand AM with 200k miles to a 07 Acura makes me care less about that. I just enjoy my car!!

I had front and rear deck rattles in my car before, but a friend of mine used some sort of padding around my entire car and it fixed the problem. I forgot the product name, it is a black foam padding that covers around the dash board and rear deck and around all the speakers. Let me find out some more info and I'll post here later on..

I have an A/T and it started rattling by the shifter not too long ago. It's right at the base of the shifter and I don't know how to get to that. Anybody?

that is an easy rattle fix sir. All you need to do is use a screw driver and take out the screw that is visibly showing nxt to ther shifter, then carefully take out the silver plastic piece. I did that a long time ago

I am new for this forum and need help from all you guys. Some of you may already read my story about rattle and engine problem about my 2008 TL. MY car has rattle noise the first day I got the car - from at least 6 locations. the dealer fix 3 of them and three still there. on the passenger side the door has a 1/4 gap (poor quality) and makes noise if the road is not super even, it is true also for the dashboard. I put some rubber between the windshield glass and dashborad to force the dashborad down. it reduces the noise a little bit. the order rattle source is the driver side vent. I found these noise are temperature sensitive. The passenger door has louder rattle noise when the temperature is above 70 F. while the driver side vent noise appears when the temperature is below 40 with heat on (bearcat please let me know how to fix it).

About 2 weeks ago, I noticed the engine humming (??) noise when i accelar.ate the car. i have never heard such noise before. i test it today and found that at lower rpm (1000 - 2000) starting from 0 upto 20 MPH the sound was there. when the speed reaches 40 the humming sounds was gone (or marsked by the engine louder sound?).

I visit the dealer, as you expected they will always say it is normal (enen engine pinging). I know it has something wrong there. I always use 93 and 91 gas. i even used the engine fuel cleaner. no help at all.

any thing experience about these prombles?

BOEVER: would you please describe more in detail the procedure of fixing vent and other rattles? step by step. I am tired of going to the dealer.

yea, I'd like to know too how to take the shifter silver plastic cover out..

I have rattles, which I believe are coming from that area....

I already looked at the area, and didn't see anything that I can put a screwdriver in...I'll double check tomorrow...

but, anyone?
