My car sounds like a diesel!

I hear a pretty loud chatter or possibly knock when near another car or when I'm in a drive-thru. It sounds horrible and really is a turn-off to me.

I know this isn't normal as I had an auto TL-S and it was very quiet. My TL-S 6MT with 59k is pretty low for a valve adjustment I would think?

I plan on taking it to the dealer as it is a CPO, however I just wanted to get everyones opinions on what to do. TIA.

Take it in. I know the Type S sometimes tends to ping, so that may be your problem, just always use 93 octane

hey while you're at it, you could also see if your car is part of the safety recall!

I've been using 93 for a little over a month now. When I checked the carfax I noticed the car was originally from Colorado, which I belive only has 91 as the hightest octane?

i've read that a misfire or no spark in one of the cylinders can cause at least an integra to sound like a suby. Might be something related to ignition.

91 octane wouldnt do anything. It's all CA has in most stations.

honestly have the same problem. I thought it was normal. I dont know if you noticed it but it kind of sounds like a DI engine.
I have an 07 tls if that matters.

If it sounds like a diesel, hopefully a turbocharger crawled up under the hood too.

Are you sure it's not just the noisy valves?

Usually cars tend to ping under load .. not idling at a drive through..

Can I get your email address to email you the video please? I can't seem to get into my YouTube account right now.

Also, I get a very subtle rattle or chatter when giving it gas and when it starts, which I also try to get in the vid.

I'm not positive but I think it might be the valves. Another forum member on here heard my car and said it may be the valves too as you could hear my car from 10ft in a parking garage.

If it needs a valve adjustment would warranty cover it? I would hate, and possibly refuse, to pay $500 for a certified car with only 59k out of pocket.

Got the email but QuickTime files are also blocked at my work haha. I'll report back in a few hours. In the meantime if you can find a way to load it up for other posters to see, give it a whirl and hopefully someone will be able to help

Here is the vid guys. Please note the clicking or rattling noise when I press the gas slightly. I hope it's just something loose.

I just noticed exactly the same thing last night. I don't hear it in the day but last night at 3 I was waiting at a red light on "one way" road, so on both sides had a car parked. Engine sound echoed and that how I totally noticed it.

Then I remembered...oh no.. there was a thread that said diesel something something on Acurazine

What's the solution? One of the cats?

Also... couple months ago I was hearing ratteling noise from the front cats. Which probably the bolts of the shield got rusted. Later on sound went away, but now It kind of started again.

Would it be that? I don't think so but may be..
Dealer wants like 150 or something to replace it. Replaced it on moms 07 MDX couple months ago

I think the noise I am getting during idle is the valves. I also think it is either the valves or a loose cat/heat shield when giving it a slight rev.

I am going to take it to Acura sometime next week and have them take a look at it.

I hear it around 40's also, when the engine is running quiet. Down hill or something.

If yours is same issue as mine, than I am positive it's not the cat/heat shield. I know that sound, it's totaly not it, I am positive after today.

Unlike a rattling noise, this one is always there and same rhythm..
Sound from the engine..

+1 on the valves...that's all I could think of since service 4 is about to come up

I will try the dealer but I hate to go to Acura for a problem. All they say is "it's normal".

Also BMW roommate threw an idea of the injectors but I don't think so...

Did you ever find a fix for this? I never found a solid response yet at anywhere. What could cause this ??
I have a Project 2007 Acura TL-S doing the same thing..

Only during warm up

My 07’ TL sounds like a diesel at startup and slowly goes away as it warms up. It’s not fluids, it appears to be parts expanding or retracting in response to the heat. My timing belt is due so it may be related.
