in the glove compartment, there is a valet switch.
press it and see if that will help operate your trunk.

through the ski pass, you can also grab the trunk release to see if it will actually release.

Is the switch in the glovebox on locked or unlocked. If its locked, remote won't open trunk!

Edit: Justin beat me to it!

No it's not that. Yes the trunk opens by grabing the trunk release through the ski pass.

Check the dash trunk release button to see if it's connected to the wiring-- sometimes the connector is off or loosened during aftermarket or dash install work.

Mine did this. Once we got it open through the backseat with a broom handle, there is a plastic piece on the latch that was broken.

Hello,

It might not be an electrical problem, at all.

My 2005 TL's trunk release became intermittent. When I pressed either the dash button or the key fob button, the release made no sound. I suspected an electrical problem.

After ensuring that valet switch in the glove compartment was ON, the owner of an electrical shop advised me to lubricate the release mechanism before doing any electrical troubleshooting. I didn’t think that would work, because there was no indication that there was any power to the release; but I tried lubrication anyway.

I filled all the cavities of the release with white lithium grease, and worked the mechanism back and forth many times.

To my surprise, that solved the problem. Now, the trunk opens every time.

Good luck!
