MPG falling fast at idle

so the other day i had the fluids changed in the car (ATF, brake, powersteering)

since then, my mpg is in the toilet. i can get it as high as 24 but when the car is idle, it falls fast and stops at 16 and that’s where it stays.

any ideas?

You must've reset the MID. Now your sample average is a lot smaller. You get 0mpg stopped at idle. A few seconds of idle is not going to instantly change the mpg number over a 3,000 mile average. But it you've only driven a few miles since the reset, it acts more like an instant mpg indicator.

I would physically right down the mileage at fillup along with gallons put in, the MID is not accurate. Also its hard to calculate in driving habits after fluid changes.

If your car runs good, actually feels good driving, i assume your not actually losing mpg.

The MID is extremely accurate. More accurate in fact, than a 1-2 tank manual calculation.

My guess is that if the OP is actually losing mpg, something in his driving habits have changed. More city driving with a lower average mph.

OP, post your average mph, this is 90% of your mpg. It will probably match up with any other TL with the same average MPH.

My stats: City - 16MPG - long red lights. Hwy - 30MPG Ave - 18MPG - due to 90% of city driving.

You can get anywhere from 0-50 MPG or so, depending on your speed, traffic, and driving habits. City MPG's are typically way lower than highway, but the vehicle is more efficient at lower city speeds. It's just the stop and go that really trashes fuel economy.

If nothing else changed, you're still putting the same amount of fuel in, and you are getting 100 miles or so less a tank, somethings really wrong.

One time, my MID acted as if it was just rest, but it said 200+ miles. It would drop MPG dramatically at idle, and go up again when I started moving. I just rest it and it was fine. If you're talking about just a few miles since this happened, just reset the MID and see what happens. You're getting 0 MPG at idle, so of course its going to go down. It can't use all that much fuel at idle, so if you have 100+ miles on the MID, and the MPG's are dropping like a brick at idle, something is up. No way the car would idle pouring that kind of fuel into the engine.

Once I hit the half way mark with this tank, which at this rate should be this afternoon, I'll post the pic of my mid. I'll post again when I'm closer to empty.

Driving habits have not changed, and before I would consistently have my mpg around 19-21 unless I was driving like a dick.
