Angry Moonroof Blows Out!

OMG! I own a 2006 TL...I was driving on the highway, with my shade open and moonroof closed. All of the sudden, out of no where...it exploded! Scared the %$#@! out of me! It was raining and snowing and I was covered in glass! Thankfully, I was alone in the car because if I had a baby in the backseat, they would have been covered in glass! I was about 2 hours away from home and 3 hours from my destination. When I pulled into a gas station with a canopy, I quickly realized that the broken glass was pointing OUT, which clearly indicates it exploded from the inside. Acura 24/7 roadside assistance was AMAZING and had my TL towed to a dealership within 15 minutes. Here's the thing...the dealership would not take responsibility for the blown moonroof! He blamed a rock hitting the glass and when I shut my door it created pressure and caused it to explode. When I explained that I had been driving for TWO HOURS before the moonroof exploded and it did not happen when I first closed my door, he fumbled with another answer and simply replied, "that is the best we can come up with." When I directly mentioned a factory defect because of the history of the MDX, he quickly rebutted and refused to admit to any factory defect.
I found this entire occurance very frustrating. Any ideas of who I should report these events to?? I want to go way above the dealership since they will obviously ignore my concerns.

It is still possible for a foreign object to hit the glass from the outside, and have the glass blow outward. It's aerodynamics. As the air outside the vehicle is moving at a faster rate and the air inside the cabin is steady, it creates a low pressure zone and the pressure difference sucks the air out from the cabin.

Fill the cabin with smoke and crack open a window while moving. You will see what I mean.

Either way, given the angle of the moonroof glass (nearly horizontal and flat with the roof), I can't imagine a rock hitting it hard enough to cause it to shatter. But I suppose anything is possible, especially when you're at the dealership.

Acura Customer Care 1-800-382-2238x5
The person you talk to is just a drone who writes down what you say and sends it via email to a superviser and manager. One of those people will investigate and call you back within24-48 normally.
They may have good news or not- you can always go above them to.
Write your complaint and send to Acura of America in addition to the phone call.

Trucks kick up rocks and drop things on the road where it could directly or rebound onto your car. If you took pics, show a glass company and ask for an opinion.
Search azine and the internet for others with the same problem.

Glad no one was injured, and it wasnt the front windshield with a giant tire coming at you!

Sound advice from the previous two gentlemen! The only other thing I would add is to check out the Third Generation TL subsite (you posted this in the Second Generation TL subsite) and you may be able to find out some more information if anyone else with a Third Gen had a similar or same problem.

The 2G'ers are thinkin right. Search in 3G it happened to some others. Just can't remember who, and dealers will PLAY the denial game like WHOA.

Glad you alright though... Maybe if they dont cover it, comprehensive claim?
