Mixing unknown ATF and Honda DW-1
Hey guys, I recently had an oil change and according to the mechanic, the tranny fluid is going bad (the color is purplish and doesn't smell like fish or burnt much) but i still want to take precaution and replace the fluid.
I had the tranny rebuilt 5k miles ago, I know for a fact the mechanic didn't use honda ATF after the rebuild
My worry is the mixing of the ATF I want to use (dw-1) and the fluid thats already in the tranny.
The problem is since this is my fathers car, who only takes it to his mechanic and doing a 3x3 would be a hassle for him considering the driving breaks in between fill-ups.
My question is would I be able to drain and fill once, mixing the 'unknown non-Honda ATF' and the honda DW-1 without any issue for at least a couple weeks?
What would you guys recommend me do?
Thanks

I can't comment on the fluids, but I'm confused why the tranny fluid went bad in 5k miles. Did you ask the mechanic how that's possible after such a short distance?
It's totally acceptable if you just want to get the correct stuff in there. Something just smells like fish a little bit, and if it's not your fluid, then it might be the mechanics diagnosis of bad fluid.

Although the Honda dealership I bought my car from told me they do flushes on all their Hondas and have never heard of them requiring a drain and fill .
Needless to say my car hasn't been back there.
