Major Electrical Problems

Hey everyone, this is my first post I hope someone can help. I did do a search but there are so many symptoms I came up empty. A few months ago I put a CAI in and after putting the battery back in I needed to put a code in to the navi screen, well the code that was given to me did not work, so I brought it in to the dealer and come to find out it was replaced a few months before I bought it. So they told me they had to pull out the screen and look at the serial number on the back to get the new code wich had not been written down. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and I noticed my driver side light was flickering then would shut off for a while, but only when either the defroster was on or the A/C. While the headlight flickered, the light for my left blinker in the dash would come on and stay on, agian this would stop when the A/C was turned off. I held off for a couple of weeks (due to my work schedule) on bringing it in to the dealer to have it checked out. Then I couldn't take it anymore so I brought it in. On the way in the temperature gauge went up to almost in the red and the A/C stopped working, and there was constant power to the headlights...even after the key was out of the ignition.

After a day of diagnosis, they told me my Multiplex unit was bad and it was going to cost $580.00 for the part plus labor and Diagnosis time. and that might not fix the problem. I told them to go ahead and change it but I asked if that would fix it, and I was told it might but it could be something else that burned the multiplex up and it may be another 2-3 hours of diagnosis after that if it didn't fix the problem. Well here it is 8 days later and they have no clue whats going on. the multiplex unit did fix the blincker light in the dash but all the other symptoms were still there. I don't know what to do, does anyone have any suggestions?? Please Help!!!

Jay

Well its hard to tell and you probably wont figure it out until you have someone good diag it which can take a while and is very costly, just trying to figure it out from what you described it nearly impossible, there are several things that you can try to say it is but wont know for sure unless you have hardcore proof from diag that that is causing your problems!

Sometimes really weird electrical stuff can be caused by a bad ground. Check in the vicinity of the stuff you did for the CAI, and check the batt - to engine block, and engine block to body connections.

So I got an update today from the dealer, saying that they still can't figure out what the problem is however they determinded that it wasn't anything that was my fault, or could have done something about. So they are going to continue to figure out the problem and fix it at no addition charge. This is good news but it still sucks that I am without a car. Thanks for your suggestions!!!

You know at my shop I HAVE to give every customer the rights to there old parts according to Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services if I don't I get fined $300 per incidents. If you are in Florida I would ask for the old parts just to know what went wrong. I don't know about other states but ours is Florida Statute 559.905 that I am talking about. The only problem now is you are suppose to ask for the old parts before the repair begins, so they know to keep them. I was just writing this for future reference for who ever reads this and live in florida.

If they decided to do the repair under warranty then you will not be able to have the parts, if it isnt under warranty you can request to have the failed part back. Warrantied parts are kept by the dealer for about 30 days then if not called back by honda to see why the part failed the parts are then disgaurded and thrown away by the dealer.

Was this a Acura certified used car? Or did you get a carfax report or have it checked out by a reputable shop before you purchased it? I don't want to worry you but this sounds suspiciously like these problems could be the result of a flooded or water damaged vehicle. Just a thought.

I knew there might be a little difference in Body Shop and a Dealer's Shop. It make sense though we have to do the same on warranty issues we have to send the old part back to the vendor to get our money back.

I can tell you guys right now carfax is a waste of money if you are trying to find out if a car has been damaged. I can tell you from experience, no one (not the body shop, insurance, or customer) reports car damage. There are no laws that make anyone to report damages. Think about it

This was a certified used car from this dealer, and the previous owner is a tech for this dealership. I have owned it for a year and a half before these problems started...I still think it is a bad ground or a pinched wire from when they pulled the navi screen.
