Loud thud when shifting out of park
ok guys i remember there was a thread something like this but i can't find it. Here's what happens....
I have an 06 TL 5AT, when i park on an incline I always put my parking brake on. The next morning when I shift out from park to reverse, there is this loud thud. Is this normal and will it damage my transmission in the long run?
P.S. When i pull the parking brakes really up to its last clicks when i park on an incline, it doesn't have that loud thud when i shift out of park the next morning...

It's completely normal. The parking pawl is what stops the car from moving in park. Picture a ratchet mechanism where there's a "gear" with straight cut teeth and a hammer or rod that engages it to lock the wheels from moving. When you're on an incline, the rod gets wedged in there harder.
The proper procedure is to set the e-brake before shifting to park. As long as the brake holds ok you won't have the thud.
