Loud Rattle under Hard Acceleration
Hi guys, I have an 06 TL and every time i accelerate hard, past 5k rpms, there is a loud rattle. It sounds like its coming from underneath the center console, maybe below the AT gear shifter. Anyone know what it can be?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Doubt it. Feels like something is vibrating under the shifter or somewhere under the console. Plus i put 93 Exxon/Mobil. I was thinking maybe heatshield?

Safety Car
So weird to see this post. I was close to posting this IDENTICAL question. I did (or had) the same exact problem.
My 2006 just started to do this suddenly. I mean that before last week, there was NO hint of any noise. Then, out of nowhere, my 2006 begins to make rattling sounds EVERYTIME I hit VTEC at 5000 RPM (and the noise continued as long as I kept my foot into it). The sounds starts the exact split-second that the engine goes into VTEC.
I did a search on the forum here. Found nothing. So, this weekend, I place the car on jackstands. I do some investigating. I am a very mechanical person (aptitude), so I had a good idea of what I might be looking for and a good idea what location the noise was coming.
I did not find anything that really stood out as being the problem. But, I did see one likely suspect. See the pic below with the red arrows. The pic is not the exact location that I am talking about. The pic is the only pic that I have just to give you a rough idea of what I am talking about. I found that the heat sheild above the cat convertor was close enough to the body to vibrate against the body. So, I bend the sheild slightly with my finger to create more clearance.
I also felt around the classic "heat sheild" that evedryone takes their car to the dealer for. It seemed tight, and not likely to cause the noise. (see pic of the of the Intermiate Shaft Bearing Heat Shield).
CONCLUSION - My rattle is gone (for now). This is Tuesday, so I have drove my car two days now. I have been dogging the car a lot too (i need to stop that
). So, I have been hitting VTEC often these past two days. And, NO RATTLE. Fingers crossed thus far
.
I recommend that you SAFELY get under your car to tap along the heat sheilds, especially the sheild above the cat canvertor. Look for any areas that are too close to the body. If you see any tight spots, bend the shiled to create more clearance. The sheild is very thin and soft, so it beens very easly. Please be safe when under your car. Do NOT lift the car with just your jack in the trunk. This will get you killed. If you do not have jack stands, maybe take your car to some shop that can put it up on a lift.

There is a SMALL chance that I could had fixed the noise when I pushed around on the classic heat sheild. I really doubt it, but it is possible because I did pull around on it. Here is a pic of that sheild.
