According to the cases posted, the 04/05 TL still has the tranny pre-mature failure problem. Some fellow TLer has mentioned a whining noise from transmission is one of the precursors of tranny failure. What else?

I have that whining noise especially on 2nd gear. In addition, my car has a shock when shifting from P to R, and the car feels a big shudder when tranny engages on R or D. (My 03 never does this.) Did anybody experience this? Is this also a sign for tranny wear?

Let's put up a list of signs/pre-cursors for tranny failure, so that people can get their cars checked or take action before anything really goes bad.

No, it has shock and shudder even when parked in a leveled area

 

Gainful .. I had three tranny failures in my '02 TL-S, that shock shudder when going into Reverse can be a sign .. definitely get that checked out asap.
