LEDs Out on Taillights ... Sometimes

I let my wife drive my car the other day and noticed that several LEDs were out on the driver-side taillight. Then, this afternoon at the shop, I noticed that those were no longer out, but there were a handful out on the passenger side. This evening, just to test it, I put a brick down on the brake and all of them were lit. Is this something that is controlled by a fuse of some sort? Surely not ... but I am just trying to get to the bottom of this. If anyone has encountered this issue before, I would love to know.

Also, on a different note ... I did a bit of searching around but didn't see what I was looking for. Does anyone know if anyone has put together a good DIY (with pics, I'm a dummy) for installing a USA Spec PA15-HON3?

My car is a 2004 Acura TL w/ Navi.

I've got the same thing going on with my passenger side. Looking forward to seeing what others on this site can suggest!
