Known Transmission Issues - Applies to Manual?
Hey folks, first post here on Acurazine. Great resource!
I'm in the market and have had my eyes on a TL for a couple of months now. I'm at the point where I can jump on a good deal if I see one. A local dealer has a 2006 TL 6-speed manual arriving in the next day or so that just squeaks into my price range before negotiations. Happy times!
My question is this: Do the transmission issues that I have read about on the forum also apply to the manual transmission?
Thanks for replies!

Do a "3rd gear"search for the details on the MT trans.
The GM Syncromesh friction modified fluid works wonders. Many enthusiast use this fluid.
If you trust the dealer to drop and crack open the trans, there is a TSB.
The MT is the way to go!

Thanks for the reply. Lots of good info!
As much as I hate MT's in rush hour traffic (which I do a lot of), I just don't think I can give up the control one gets with it. I grew up on MT's and it feels awkward driving an AT.
Thanks again.

go drive a TL automatic
In sport shift mode, you control the up and downshifts- without the wasted time of pushing clutch- its computer signal controlled and operated!
It will even prevent over-rev downshifts!
Something the MT owners wish they had~--its very possible and expensive damage to clutch and valves if you miss a shift ,or downshift into 2nd at speed- say goodbye MT!
Just a normal clutch replacement job is 2500 dollars!!! Its an acura after all~
and they are wearing out anywhere over 18k miles, abuse by former owner is frequent!
Seriously go try the SS mode on a TL, you will never go back to a clutch again.
There is a reason many cars now have paddle shift on the steering wheel- guess what technology that comes from--!

Needs wheels
If you are comfortable with a manual, you WANT the TL in manual. It's faster, has a stiffer suspension, better brakes, LSD...it's the better option if you can live with shifting. Although to 01tl4tl's point you will want to make sure it is in good condition upon delivery.

^^^Hell yeah. I wouldn't even think about the 3G TL if they didn't offer the MT option. I was pumped way back when I found out they were offering a MT option for the TL. I'm a huge Acura fan, and I prefer sport sedans for a DD.

Some MT cars have had trouble with the clutch. It uses a self-adjusting pressure plate, which has over-adjusted on some people and under-adjusted on others. Dealers are not very quick to cover it under warranty, since the clutch is a wearout part.
Ask if the clutch has been replaced. Mine was at 18K and it seems to be fine now at 38k, but others have had it replaced several times and still had the problem. Other folks have had no problems, though.
