mine does the same. weird, slight knock during idle. (05 TL A-spec)

JwongTLS Mar 14, 2009 06:01 PM

+2

but I think its just supose to be like that because of wear and tear??

csmeance Mar 14, 2009 06:45 PM

wow... just as a tip don't move around so much so fast... I'm feeling pretty dizzy...

From the crappy youtube converters that dulled the sounds, it appears that your belt tensioner has become a bit noisy. Have them check and replace it.

Meh, with 7,500miles i wouldnt know how it would get lose. lol sorry if i got u sick.

I'm fine now, no need to apologize. I suggest you have the ticking documented so the dealer has it on record in the event something happens. BTW do you use 91+ octane?

ILLustriousUA6 Mar 15, 2009 01:11 AM

since the video was removed, i can not verify what it is HOWEVER.. have u checked how much oil u have in the car? It may be that you are low on oil.

TL|GTX Mar 15, 2009 11:41 AM

I used 91 a couple of times, but ever since 2 months ago, i used 93 v-power, sometimes 93 mobile. And i even reset the car the way to you told me. Here is the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXSW2VhG6AA

Sounds like a normal VTEC to me.

I believe the OP was using 87 or 89 for a while but I don't think it's engine knock. I'd be worried about the precats though. I can't tell from the video.. seems like YT really chops up the audio sampling. I'd seafoam it in both ends to clean up the fuel injectors and valves and make sure you buckle up!

Majofo Mar 17, 2009 10:21 AM

Any other symptoms? CEL? How's your mpg?.. What's that noise right after you're accelerating.. it sounds wishy-washy.. I can't tell if its background noise / turn signal / or related to the sound you're describing. I'd check for any leaks through the intake and exhaust gaskets..

TL|GTX Mar 17, 2009 10:29 PM

The windows creaked open, and i avg 15mpg, city but when i drive under 50, i get 17.

Did you ever get the problem fixed? I have the same knocking sound from my engine and i just had a new transmission put into the car. Yeah at 35000 miles my 05 TL needed a new transmission...go figure...since then ive been having so many problems with the car. When i accelerate i smell a burning type of smell and when idling in park, reverse or drive you hear the knocking sound coming from the right side of the engine as though it were the belts or the pulleys. when i accelerate you can cant hear it with the hood closed but when open and reving the engine in park you can really hear the knocking noise get faster. Im taking my TL in to acura within the next hour to have them check it out so ill post their diagnosis after i find out. They said its going to be wear and tear if its the belts which i think is complete BS since the cars been having problems ever since they replaced the transmission.

My car is making the exact same noise. Seems like its coming from the pulleys and from the top of the engine.Honda mechanic said he didnt hear anythinng unusual???It only makes that noise when the car is idling kinda driving me crazy, if anyone finds the cause please be sure to post.Thanks.

ticking sound!

hi I got the ticking noise when the car starts and warms up it starts. also when i press the gas pedal and sometimes it disappears when i press it again, and tell also it speeds up with the rpm's. i have a video but not sure how to upload it. any thoughts.
thanks. I looked under the steering wheel next to the pedals, inside the hood the firewall its somewhere coming from their but cant pin point it.
the vehicle is a 2000 acura tl 164k miles.

FamilyGuy Mar 24, 2015 10:29 AM

Check your plugs make sure they're all torqued down, esp #5 (front center, by radiator).

mikeesm Apr 2, 2015 07:15 PM

did check the plugs and double checked if they are good and tight. But ts not coming from the engine. Its coming somewhere between the gas pedal cable that goes through the wall from the inside to the engine(throttle body). Is their a way i can post video!

mikeesm Jan 2, 2016 02:49 PM

Alright folks I have found and took care of that annoying sound. I was coming from the Vapor Canister Purge valve. Replaced it and the noise gone.

2008 TL Knocking Noise

Hello fellow TL owners! This is my first post on the forum and hoping to get some help. My 2008 TL has 98K miles on it and has knocking noise coming from the engine for the last 4-5 weeks. It syncs with engine revs. Please see the linked video and advise if this is something serious. It's a 3.2L 2008 TL.

feldmanbd Apr 28, 2016 03:11 AM

A lot of them sound like that - several other threads here about it. I'm not sure what the cause of it is or how serious it is, but I think a lot of them have been making that noise for quite some time.

One thing you could try it this:

valve adjustment

csmeance Apr 28, 2016 08:03 PM

check the tensioner for the timing belt and the accessory belt.

Inside engine

Sounds like your lifters are not getting lubrication. So it's definitely inside the engine. Not external.

Greg246811 Nov 3, 2016 09:35 AM

Hey good morning all, I have a 2004 Acura Tl 3.2 and I am having a similar issue. When I start the car it sounds like a rumble coming from the engine and I can almost feel it while my foot is on the brake pedal. When I put the car in drive and take off slowly I can hear it rattle a little bit more. At low speeds (taking off) it does it a lot, but on the highway it seems like it drive fine.

Any ideas?

srg818 Nov 6, 2016 09:20 PM

While standing outside when the car is idling can you hear anything? and if so the location where it sounds like it's coming from?

nightkid08 Jan 3, 2017 08:17 AM

Seems like this is getting more common as the car ages with all Tls? Anyone have an update on this issue? Like most of the members said noise is coming from the passenger side of the engine and is more apparent when under the starter and ac condensor area?

Hello just curious, was your car making a tapping noise when the car was in park, reverse or drive and would go away as soon as the car started moving or accelerate? I'm having this issue and I can't find the source of the problem.

mikeesm Feb 23, 2022 09:08 AM

Ticking knocking noise at idle from engine.

Hi so I sold the vehicle some time ago, but what I remember, I had the car in idle and found the solenoid for the vapor canister purge valve causing the noise, it's all one piece. Should be located back, right side engine.
