Jasper Auto Transmission-Read if you are thinking about replacement of OEM

Jasper has a great reputation and a great warranty-->BUT, My experience so far is not great.

A local certified jasper shop replaced the transmission in my '04 TL base, seemed to do a really good job with installation and resealed the oil pan for me as it was leaking.

I have had the car back for just over a week, put about 300 miles on it.

Here is the issue, after it is at operating temperature, and you are pulling away from a stop VERY casually, the 1st-2nd shift has a bumpy hesitation and then it shifts. My wife did not notice it, and im sure a lot of people wouldn't. Not a perfectly crisp shift like it should be though. I also spoke to a Jasper Rep and learned Jasper doesn't actually remanufacture their Import engines and transmissions, they buy from a 3rd party.

I contacted the shop and let them know I was not happy. I paid a super premium for Jaspers product, not a warranty. And I wasn't happy about the fact that it didn't shift like a brand new car.

Of course he was apologetic and said he would be contacting Jasper to see if I was right about them not manufacturing them. But overall so far it looks like I'm going to have to have them replace the transmission AGAIN!@@!@

I will post updates on what goes on

Jasper actually has a horrible reputation, at least in the Domestic world. Evreyone knows to stay away from their engines. They have many different sources and at least years ago they did some of their own. QC is all over the place. Not that it matters but a few of our guys bought some surprisingly cheap GN longblocks from them and once they blew and were disassembled it was found that they used non turbo pistons and crankshaft in all of them. Not that I have to tell you now, but stay away.

Best case, get your money back and get the trans rebuilt by a good independent shop or have them fix the problem.

FWIW, what you describe is likely slippage. If it comes down to it and you lose out on this whole deal, go with 100% Type F "Racing" fluid, not a mixture, you want the thick stuff and limp it along for as long as you can.

If you don't mind me asking, approximately how much did it cost all together? I think I have the most minor of issues with my trans, hopefully the dealer fixes it, but ball park how much does a new trans with labor cost?
