Issue with nav and bluetooth voice

I realize this probably belongs in one of the subforums, but I couldn't figure out if I should put it in "Audio, Bluetooth & Nav" or "Problems", so I'll just start it here.

A friend of mine has an NBP 04 TL (with 175k miles) that has been very good to him. He just started having a problem where whenever the bluetooth or nav speaks to him it sounds terrible full of static. Radio works just fine. The issue is just with the audio when either the Bluetooth system or the Nav system attempts to speak. The voice recognition works just fine.

My thoughts are that this isn't Bluetooth related since the nav commands are also affected. Is there some processor board that does text-to-speech or something? Or could this just be a blown center channel? I'm thinking that he'd notice radio issues if it was the center channel, but maybe he just hasn't noticed it. I haven't been in his car to hear the issue for myself, so I'm just going off what he told me.

Nav/Bluetooth

I have heard that a bad hands-free link is often the cause... it is an expensive fix at the stealership.

But why would that affect the audio from the Nav lady?
