Interior Rear Veiw Mirror Loose..How to tighten?

so ive searched and got no where looking for solutions and answers other then going back to the dealership (hate going to the dealership)..so heres the problem..my interior rear veiw mirror is loose and when im driving (i thought i was crazy) it moves around(not to mention it rattles as well)
does anyone know how i can tighten the bracket that holds the mirror to the windsheild? it should be a simple fix but im afraid i might pull to hard and accidentally rip off my mirror..i was able to pop off the black plastic cover behind the mirror but all i saw was wires (for the auto dimming feature) but no screws to tighten. i know for a fact its where my mirror meets my windsheild because if i move it with my hand the bracket on the glass shifts right to left..it seems like a lot of people had this problem but havent seen a fix..has anyone fixed this problem without going to the dealer?

take the plastic cover off of the back of the mirror closest to the windshield
then take a hammer and a screw driver put the screw driver on the metal part of the mirror and gently tap it until it is back in place

what is the exact problem, is it loose from the glass or is the mirror portion jsut bouncing around. If it from the glass, do above steps, if it just the mirror, take it to the dealer as the spring in the mirror needs to be replaced, this was a problem on the 2004's and some 2005 tl's.
