Ignition ping with 91

I'm noticing some pinging under moderate load, even with 91 octane. Going to keep trying different brands to see if any might have better results.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
Thanks

Welcome to the forums.
Are you sure it's pinging from detonation?
Other members had pinging or rattling, but it was a loose heat shield underneath the car for which Acura issued a TSB. A search of "heat shield" should pull up a few threads on the subject; there should be a link to the TSB in one of those threads.
Otherwise, try 91 from a "Top Tier" gasoline station-- Chevron, Conoco-Phillips, Shell, etc. I think that was the answer for a couple of members who had a detonation issue resulting from putting bad/marginal gas in the TL.

DeepV

What are you driving and how many miles on it?
Only owner?- recent purchase? etc

Seafoam treatment ($8 30-minute DIY) cleans all the junk from the fuel injectors, valves and pistons.
See thread seafoamed the ol TL for info

If there is a build-up of carbon or other substance it can really mess you up

Plugs will also play into it. I just put NGK Iridiums in at 70k miles even thought the book says wait till 100-ptttttt car runs way better with solid spark to that expensive gas.

Are you at extreme altitude or temp?

More details = more feedback

Thanks guys. It's definately ping. The car is brand new and we live at sea level(not that it should matter), and the last tankful was Chevron. 11:1 ratio has got to be the limit for 91 octane.

Change to Shell or Conoco 76- something other than Chevron in case you received a bad batch of gas- for a couple of tanks to see if the pinging continues. Hopefully it was bad gas.
If pinging continues, see the dealer since it shouldn't be happening; the TL should retard timing to avoid premature detonation even with 87 octane regular.
G/L!

Oh, and one of the heat shield threads with citation to the 2006 TSB for pinging or whistling noise: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=heatshield.

It can happen if the car is modded enough and as such has leaned out the A/F ratio enough at some points in the power band like mine is around 5K. Basically I need to add more fuel as the Apexi NEO is not leaning it out at the point at all.

It should as someone else mentioned retard timing and elimate the pinging after it hears it the first time.
