Idler Pulley?

New guy here! I got just got my B service done by the dealer (got ripped), but he said I have a "Worn bearing on my idler pulley.” WTF? Is this B.S., or could it be a serious problem?

It could be a serious problem because if the bearing goes, your belt will either break or come off the pulleys and the alternator won't charge the battery.

I don't know how many miles you have on the car, but I do know it is less than 4 years old so it should be under warranty. Didn't he offer to replace it and schedule an appointment?

The car is 04 and has 18,000 miles on it. He said when the part comes in he'll contact me. No mention if its under warrenty or even if I should be driving the car.

So should I avoid driving the car?

What does the idler pulley do?

The idler pulley puts tension on the belt so it is tight and doesn't slip. It is spring loaded, and the pulley itself turns fast and runs on a bearing. I think if he thought it was dangerous he would have told you.

It will definitely be warranty.

That should be under warranty..I am surprised that he let you drive home with it...You should have asked for a loaner car instead and leave the car to them
