I need all of your help, especially TypeS owners

My 2008 S has about 15000 miles now. About 5000 miles ago, I started hearing a clicking sound coming from the engine. The sounds gets louder when the engine warms up and can be heard even with the AC off.
I took the car to the dealer and was told that this is normal for all TL cars. However, the loaner car they gave me was very quiet and didn't have any "clicking" sound.

Do you guys have a problem similar to mine?

Also, whenever I open the driver side door, I have to spend 5 seconds making sure the door doesn't slam back into my face. I remember when the car had 10 miles and when I open the door, it stays open without having any loose feeling around the hinge. I was told this is also normal.

Can you guys keep your driver side door open without having to spend 5 seconds trying to keep it open?

Lastly, the car's outdoor temperature. Starting day one when I took delivery of the car, the temperature was always off by 20 degrees. After taking the car in two times, they finally said "yeah, your sensor appears to be defective even though we find that hard to believe because in my 8 years here, I've never seen one broke before" So it was replaced, or they claim it was replaced. Even after 6 months, the outdoor temperature is still not accurate. It's a lot better then it was before, now only off by about 7 degrees. I've used the on board computer to calibrate it but it is still off by 2 degrees.

The loaner car they gave me was only off by one degree and that was without any setting change. I've compared it to the other cars I have in my house. Both cars show 40 degrees. My TL would always say 45.

How accurate is your car's outdoor temperature?

Thanks fory our time

Wooooooo. If my TL was making a clicking sound I would be really pissed the F*CK off. No matter what they tell you, this is definitely not normal. They really gotta be kidding me if they think that you would take that for an answer. Second of all, my car door does not close shut on me for now appearant reason. And to answer your question about the temperature gauge being off, I really don't know how accurate mine is. To best figure this out, get another person with a TL and see how different these readings are. What were you using to measure the temperature outside to know that you car's readings were off??? There is no way you can accept this from Acura.

Hey man, don't worry too much about the outdoor temperature. Those things are never 100% accurate anyways. If you want to be sure what the real temp is, go to weather.com on your phone.
and my car doesn't have any clicking sounds(that I'm aware of).

The ticking noise should get quieter as the engine warms up. Noisy valves, lifters will be the culprit, but get that looked diagnosed. That might be your only problem to fix. Mine's noisy at first, but will definitely subside once warm. Although, you can still hear the ticking.

You have to push these TL doors open a little wider than most cars. I noticed that the first day I bought my Type S.

Why does it matter if the temperature gauge is off by 10 degrees? It most likey is picking up the engine heat and showing it hotter than it actually is. You might want to chill out on that one (no pun intended)

i have an 08 S also..i also work for acura as a tehchnician. that clicking noise can be alot of different factors..it could be your valves making noise due to excessive rev. or you just driving the car hard. it could also be maybe one of your coil packs not immitting sparks. but that would throw a code. if i were you i would find another dealer near u and find a reputable tech.

In my garage, I have a digital thermometer that measures indoor and outdoor to the tenth of a degree.

So for example, if the device reads the garage temperature being 74.6, then my BMW would say it's 75. However, the TL would always be off by 5+ degrees when it's warm outside.

When I took my car in last week, I was told the clicking sound is normal from TL cars. First, I they told me it was the AC compressor. That is true, I would expect any AC compressor to make any kind of noise, the problem is that I turn the AC off.

My biggest concern is the engine clicking sound and the door being loose. When I open the door, it sways a lot and I have to open it very softly for it to "catch" that first opening position and hope that the movement from getting out of the car doesn't cause the door to move back.

I've contacted Acura client services this morning, and hopefully they can get me some feedback on the issues I'm having. My main concern was the dealer actually being honest by telling me that all of the problems I've been having are indeed "normal" for a TL.

Clicking? No. I had some knock, but have found ways to combat/reduce/elimate that.

Door - Yes. I've learned to deal with it. I guess I'm just smarter than my door.

Temp Reading - Don't know how accurate it is, but I do know the algorithm that changes the temp *display* is a little wacky - it starts with the temp when the car was last turned off and slowly changes after you drive a cetain time at a certain speed. I think it's supposed to be done after about 15 mins of driving and then I would only expect it to be accurate +- 2*.

i have an 08 type S with 12,000 miles so i could be a good comparison. no strange sounds that i have ever heard. i think you know thats not quite right, especially when your loaner didnt do that. and it looks like we're all confirming that for you too. GL with that.

your door comment made me laugh. ive learned to enjoy and embrace it but yeah at first it kept trying to cut my foot off. now i just get pissed when passengers slam the door. im like dude, it will close itself, chill out on the power slam. and also you'll need to help ur 92 yr old grandma get out cuz otherwise she will just keep kicking your door/speaker as it keeps closing on her. and she'll have dirt on her shoes and you'll be pissed that she's getting your door dirty but then have to remind urself she's 92 so dont get mad. so yeah, watch out for that. haha

^ Is there an actual fix to the door problem?

Out of my last 3 cars, TL's driver door is the only one who will freaken slam you back in your seat, I have to use my foot to prevent it from bitch slapping me.

My '08 Type S just reached 2K miles, so I have not noticed much problems with it yet. No funny sounds from the engine (yet), and the temp display may be off by a few, but I believe you can adjust that, anyway, so I don't pay much attention to it. Of the three things you mentioned, only the door issue comes to mind. But then again, my '02 Type S also did the same thing, so I don't count it as a problem at all - it's probably supposed to work like that, by design.

I wish you luck getting all your Type S problems resolved from one of the dealerships.

No engine noise here 2800 miles. but the door sucks, going through all the reviews, i missed this part. A lot of people complained that the doors would not stay open. Even on a flat surface they tend to close on your ass. Kind of an annoyance but it something i can live with.

My engine seems to have no abnormal noise (of course mine is newer), thermometer seems to be correct (very cold), and my driver door does seem to close back on my leg sometimes but I wouldn't call it slamming back on me.

I kind of have fun with the door. All i need to do is open it, jump in as fast as I can, and it slams closed all by itself...

Closing part is cool it just does it to quick. if it did it slowly would be nice. I remember mashing my finger trying to keep the door from closing like within a week after i got it, HURT like a MO-Fo. Luckily it was not being slammed.

I have a new TL- Type S with only 600 miles. However, with all the engines that I currently and have owned, clicking is never normal. I would not accept from the dealer that "it's normal", "It's NOT". I would find a dealer to make a proper assessment, other wise the warranty will be toast. Engines are not designed to start clicking miscellaneously.

I do not have any of the other problems ( so far)

Heavy doors > cheap, light doors.

Either way, someone will complain.

I also have an 08 TL-S with 10300K miles. No clicking issue here. Not sure the temp is that acurate. The door does have a tendency to come back on me, but my 04 TSX did the same thing. So, I'd say the door thing is normal. You just have get a feel as to how hard to push it so it catches.

Gang, I have my heart set on a type-s, just love the interior, exterior and it is the perfect size for my family. I have been doing all the proper research (ok I admit, I am maniatical when it comes to researching so this is my fith post asking for trouble spots), thus I want to ask you, have any of you experienced the suspensions noises that some posters has registered here (especially coming from the rear)? I will be looking at a 07 Type-S and the price is pretty good at $22,000 with 32,000 miles, but I have been reading and reading all over these forums just to make sure that I get to know the type-s anyonances (although all cars have their own things).

And last, if any of you have totally changed your shocks (springs, coil overs etc) in order to correct this problem, please share the changes you made and if did correct the problems. Thanks all in advance for your input.

DRMOOCOQ, Sorry to hear that you are having these problems, clearly not satisfactory! I have a KBP TL S Type with about 7900 miles and have not experienced any of the issues you cite. From my perspective, you need to take the car back to the dealer and have them resolve the issues to your satisfaction, especially for a car that costs what our's do. A ticking noise of any sort is completely unsatisfactory for a car of this caliber. Have them repair/replace and "get it right". Hang in there!

What oil are you running? Many people experience more ticking when they switch to Mobil 1 because it's on the thin end of each viscosity range. Mine got louder a long time ago when I tried M1 and since I switched to a quality 30wt, it's quieter than any TL I've heard.

The door thing is normal on the type s, I believe. Mine does the same thing and like others have learned to embrace it (after several racks on the ball of my ankle....OUCH!).

My engine is also makes more noise than I would have expected and it sounds like lifter tap...almost like it is bad gas or something. Mine does it under light to medium loads and goes away once I give it more gas. I checked with the Acura Dealer, verified that it is not fuel issues (I use premium only), they said they could not find anything wrong with it and the noise is normal.... BUT to let them know if it gets worse and they would be happy to take another look at it. I was a little dissappointed that they didn't see or hear anything wrong, but was please with their eagerness to help and willingness to take another look if something changed with it.

If you aren't happy with the answer you got from your dealer, I would suggest getting a second opinion from another dealer. Sorry it is not more help!
