I get to take my beef to Acura on monday.

My front brakes have been pretty loud, (normal I thought for brembos) but they got worse. anywho, today I picked up some oil and figured while I'm at it I'll check the pad life.

sure enough the inside pads were down to almost nothing, to the point where they're digging into the rotors. just wonderful I know.

Heres my beef, this car was Inspected and passed Maryland state inspections less then 3000 miles ago. I've put around 2750 mile on the car since I bought it used (Acura Certified Pre Owned W/100K mile warrenty) So come monday I'm going to see if they're willing to do anything for me. If not I'll buy pads and install them myself since it's super easy anyways. Then contact Acura of America and see how they feel about my first (Certified Pre Owned car) from them has left a bad taste in my mouth about safety.

I believe Maryland state requires a car to have at least 40% brake life left in order to pass state inspections. so I'm going to have to argue that theres no way in hell I used up the pads down to about 5% pad life left in less then 3000 miles.

ok whatever, I'll see what they do, so I moved onto changing the oil.

Keep in mind I do all my own work and have tools out the butt so this is nothing new to me. infact before even jumping into it I knew what tools to break out since this car is a Honda.

I always use sockets when removing drain plugs, it helps keep them nice and clean, VS rounded them off with a open wrench.

welp I put the 17mm socket on the drain bolt and... no go.. it's just too damn tight. So I whip out the breaker bar. sure enough even with the socket nice and seated I still managed to round the edges off the bolt. yay me!

I'm also going to go in there and ask them to take me back in the workshop with a torque wrench and have them show me just how many lbs of force it takes to remove a 29ft lb bolt. Before rounded the bolt off I had around 70lbs of force on it.
no doubt the dumbass that put the drainbolt back on used a impact wrench.

Because this dealership always changes the oil on used cars when they first come in, it means no doubt one of their shopboys did the oil.

bah this week is such a busy week for me, it just pisses me off, add another thing on my to do list....

I would be surprised if you get anything out of the brakes. They have documentation that the brakes were fine when they sold it. You have nothing. It's their word against yours. And yes...you could wear out a set of pads in that many miles. I'm sure you didn't...but it could be done. Mail delivery people for example. I know of some that have to have complete brake and rotor replacement every 5000 miles. I think you're screwed on that one.

Oh yea...use a 6 point socket next time. It won't round off the bolt. And if you were using a 6 point and it did it, it was either the wrong size or badly worn. I've also seen inferior quality sockets and wrenches in which the sizing was so bad they wouldn't fit worth a crap.

Ive worked on all my own stuff for a long time now, chit I even have a tool as tall as me stocked with tools. The drain plug IMO seem rather soft. either way dont @#$$#@ torque them down! The oil pan/drain plug isnt meant to see 50+ FT LBs of torque.

on another note I pulled my other wheel off today and found that both pads looked to be fine.

so I have my front left side, both paids have about 40% life left, the front right side has about 40% on the outter pad and around 5-10% on the inner pad.

sounds to me like something is up.

I'll find out tomorrow.

I called them this AM and they said no problem we'll take a look at it. Does the 19th sound ok to you? Friggin eh, I need my car this weekend due to guest from out of the country coming in.

bah I told them never mind but I did bitch about how the little oil monkey torqued the hell out of the bolt. he agreed they sometimes do that. bah

anywho, Subaru of Annapolis had brembo pads for 299.99 however, they also carried Hawks. $115.00 later I had myself a set of new pads. I installed them a few hours ago.
very easy install. As far as my oil went... Before installing my brakes I took some liquid wrench and sprayed the bolt down nice and good then I jacked the car up high enough so I could easily get my whole body under it. I then put my closed in wrench 17mm on the bolt, then used a hammer to hit it onto the bolt so it had a nice grip, then I tried to undo the bolt..... no go =(

I moved my body so I could place my foot on the wrench. a good bit of pressure later POP! the bolt came lose.

mofo! I first thought 50+lbs now Im guessing they used a torque wrench setup for lug nuts. that had to of been 100ft-lb if not more CRAZY!
