I am the biggest idiot ever

since my car has been on jack stands for two weeks, jumping right into a morning install, I thought my hood was stuck.

I started messing around with the hood latch and popped the spring off of the hood release.

I fucking forgot to hit the hood release cable from inside of the vehicle.

Now my ass doesnt know how the latch mechanism works.
it was operated by spring, so does that mean it takes a lot of force to open!?

since the spring is off, the hood release inside of the vehicle doesnt work.

I should have had my first.

Actually it shouldn't take any force now. The spring is what held it closed against the hood hook. Now that it's off you just need to move the hook to the other side. But you may need someone to put some weight down on your hood to relieve to tension off the latch. Hope you can reach it from under the car.

You should be able to figure out Justin. The latch is easy to fix, might be easier to remove the whole latch on work on it on a bench if you've got a vise. Get someone press the cabin button while you lift the hood too, while its not working right. That might work in the time being.

After a few hours to clear my head.
I decided to take a look at it.

there were three bolts holding the latch to the frame.
took these off, which allowed me to raise the hood. the cable being the restrictive part, I got the hood high enough to see the latch mechanism.
a little flick of the screwdriver and the latch separated from the hood.

We're back in business.

Lessons to take away here:
Dont rush.
take your time.
drink your coffee.
dont catch crabs.

Trying to figure out how you took the spring off without the hood popped? Oh well, glad you're good now.

^just being dumb.

I really thought my hood was stuck...I didnt think of pulling the handle inside the car. since the hood was open for two weeks.

Before I started that morning, I should have assessed the project first

Do you need any sort of diagrams for the latch to put it back together?

actually, yes.

I need the back side of the latch, showing where the springs hook onto.
I know that there's only one place for the spring to latch onto, and a latch is a simple mechanical piece...
I just havent looked into putting the spring back on.

but if a diagram were to show up, it would make my simple brain work less.

OMG. Dude I did the same thing lmao. I took my grille off to see how the OEM one looked vs. my aftermarket one. I then tried opening the hood and it wouldn't open. For whatever reason, I thought the hood sat 'lower' being that there was no hood. I was freaking out. Little did I know, the hood latch was closed. < Joining you as the biggest idiot ever.

I think you should just leave the latch off and get hood pins.
