How to test to see what headlight problem
How to test to see what headlight problem
All right read the threads but question is to find out why driver side headlight out.
checked fuses all ok
How to test if have bad bulb?
How to test ignitor?
How to Test ballast?
All 3 are expensive, Dealer seem to be happy to replace all 3 for $800
Is there a way to test besides taking front bumper apart and swapping from left to right side.
Since all are rides getting older and my TL is a Cali car someone must know an easy way to test the 3 pieces involved

What is the bulb doing?
If it flickers or comes on for a few seconds and goes out it's your ballast.
If it doesn't come one at all, it's safe to say it's the bulb.
Don't buy from the dealer.

Does not come on changed the bulb still nothing, Is there no test for the ignitor or ballast, at now the proposal from Niello Acura in Sacramento of $925 to change all 3 pieces Bulb, ballast, ignitor for one headlight is a lot
I have a 2005 Acura TL with the same problem. Mine started with moisture in the headlight assembly. Purchased new assembly and had my local body shop install. Purchased a new HID bulb and come to find out it isnt the bulb. They body shop isnt comfortable with going any further and recommends taking it to the dealership. Dealership will charge $200 just to remove the bumper before even diving in to see what the problem is. Any ideas? My dad is a mechanic and I thought the headlight assembly would be a simple fix. Also - seems to have a little moisture in the new headlight?
There are some great posts, including a video on removing the bumper. I found an OEM replacement ignitor and ballast for $180. It took me less than 2.5 hours to pull the bumper replace the ignitor and ballast and put it back together. Moisture is a problem with 3rd Gen Acura's. I learned this from one of the posts on headlight issues. They suggested sealing the connection with silicone
It sounds like the headlight just quit working one day?
Usually when it's the bulb it gets "pink eye" for a few days to a few weeks before it stops working.
Usually the ballast will cause it to flicker or work intermittently.
I *think* the ignitor will cause nothing to happen but don't hold me to it.
Any chance you're coming to Bakersfield any time soon? I'm getting ready to swap out my headlights in the next few weeks and you're more than welcome to try my parts out on yours to pin point the problem.

Ended up being a ballast or as The dealer called it a controller but to my amazement they do not stock the ballast that i found odd they did not and can not have one till Monday 6 days to get, Got new 6000k headlights so no harm I quess that bought bulbs except that I hate to trial by error on the diagnose and found that the test equipment for the Metal Halide lights on my buildings works on the Auto systems so I can check the bulbs and ignitors and ballast going forward only other revelation is second set of motor mounts in 55,000 miles which also seems odd

I have a similar problem
it does flicker some times but stays on
I have a lot lighting going on like led strips, custom fog lights(55 walts),
it only does it some time but it does flicker more when I turn on my fog lights?
Do I need a bigger battery or a more powerful battery?

why not try Fresno Acura warren? Carey always gives me a discount of some kind
In my experience...after a ballast goes bad, nothing happens. If you get some kind of flicker, or comes on and goes off, or sometimes comes on and stays on, its the igniter on the way out completely. There's times when the igniter goes completely bad that nothing at all happens.
Just recently I experienced this. Once more last year.
The way I find out is swap parts between left and right headlight..narrow it down to what doesn't work. Its how I saved money and headaches from buying the wrong part by trial and error.
