How to silence rear deck?

I have a problem where the rear deck creaks when I go over certain kinds of bumps. Has anyone been able to fix this problem? If so, what is the best way to go about it? The creaking sounds like loose plastic (or perhaps the sub) and it is driving me nuts.

thanks.

I'm also having the same problem - it seems to be from the driver's side rear deck - a chirping rattle when I go over bumps. It's been there since I purchased my Type-S about a month ago.

I'll be watching this thread.

I have creaks and rattles in my new 07 Base TL, I was kinda pissed about it so I brought it right back to the dealer. Did you talk to your dealer about this?

Yes. I even took them for a ride and replicated the creak several times, but they said they didn't hear anything - leading me to believe it is my problem to solve. Not sure how, though. I will admit, that even though it is a small problem, it is maddening - it makes the ride sound cheap.

What did your dealer do about it?

I had a rattle in the back deck that took a long time to figure out. Finally it started happening regularly and ended up being the center seatbelt assembly - the part at the top of the seat retracts the belt. Dealer had to take the back seat out to replace, but the rattle is all gone. While they had the seat out, they also put foam in anyplace they thought other rattles might occur. The sound of silence is great now.

Joel, My dealer is working on it now. I took the service manager out for a spin and he heard 2 of the three rattles I'm getting. I should have my car back thrusday. I'll let you know how it turned out. There are a number of threads on here that talk about your kind of rattle. Mine are all in the front passenger area.

I took mine out the deck.... glued 1/4 inch foam along the bottom of it in sections so that its not totally covered becuz most of it will rip off when u try reinstalling it and I put dynamat on the sections of metal where there were welding spots and the metal rattled.....it seemed to work for me......plus I have 3 10inch JL subs and still no rattle

I have the same problem in my 06 TL. I have had it to the dealership numerous times and they replaced the sub, which did nothing. It still made a nasty rattle noise when a lot of bass would come across a song or we went over a bump. They then replaced the straps in the back window and did the foam thing and that lasted approximately 3 months and now the noise is back. My dealership has no fix for it accept to replace it every 3 months. I'm not sure if I agree with that, why spend this kind of money on a luxuary can and have to take in it every 3 months. I contacted Acura headcourters and the buck got passed numerous times before I was told there was nothing they could do about the rattle. Any suggestions I need help??????

duramat the f**k out of it around the open edges inside the trunk under the rear deck you can add foam dampening material if the noise persists.....some noise should be expected though because its not a Rolls Royce so dont over analyze it.....and make sure its totally pressed down when its reinstalled the middle of it has a few pins that should be pressed down pretty hard when reinstalling it.

My new type-s has been at the dealership since I got it six months ago for rattles. They fixed most of them but like this thread the dealership cannot figure it out. I've been on numerous rides with the service manager and he hears them but whatever they are trying to do to fix them is sure as hell not working. It is a rattle that doesn't even have to do with the radio being on. It is in the rear deck and you can hear it going over the smallest bumps in the road. Last time I picked it up at the dealership they said that "it is the best that we are going to get it." Yeah right! They said it is because of the tint on the windows. Seems like all dealerships want to blame you on what problems you're having with your car instead of taking some accountability on their part. I know its not a fucking rolls royce but damn you spend 38k on the damn car and it's new they better get it right. I'm so fed up with the service at the dealership. Too bad the next closest dealership is hundred miles away. Let me know if any of you have fixed this.

Alright I just got back from the dealership and the service advisor and mechanic rode in my car. Seems to be the wiring harness loose. Fixed. So far no rattle.

thanks.
I only had that annoying creaking after they replaced the rear deck subwoofer.

They wound up having to replace my rear deck with foam added to underside of the right and left rear side panels just above the rear deck panel. That noise drove me nuts for months.

Tools used

What you are trying to remove x 4 qty.

My removal method step 1

My removal method step 2

What you will be looking at after the 4 plugs are removed.

I dropped my 07 TL-S off at the dealership for a rear deck rattle last week. They confirmed it was the rear seatbelt assembly, which they replaced. Problem was solved, but now it sounds like a speaker grill is rattling during certain bass notes. Subwoofer/bass settings are at about 4/5ths full.

Ok, so my rear deck creaking is gone, but now I have it directly behind my head in the top panel somewhere. Is there a way to pull it apart to find the culprit, or will I ruin the top by doing so?

Duramat

The only way I could fix my rear deck rattle is my duramating the parts that touch the rear windshield. It turns out my deck was smacking the glass, making a horrible rattle (probably b/c I have 2 12 mtx subs)
