high oil level

high oil level

i have been noticing lately that after i change my oil and add the 4.5 quarts that it brings the oil level on the dipstick right up to and even a tad over the full line. ANy ideas?

I believe you're supposed to add 4.2 quarts.

I just pour 4 quarts exactly.

^yup i just add a gallon jug (4 qts) and recheck it after a week or so and see where i'm at.

i usually buy a gallon + 1 qt each change.

no worries mr.b...you'll be fine

Mine takes 4.5 qts on the button every time (that includes pre-filling the filter).

If you're on the "full" line or a tad over, it's not going to be a problem. A lot of people just dump in the whole 5 qts and don't worry about it.

I buy 5 quart jugs, and use all but 1 quart.
after 4 oil changes, I have 4 quarts that I dont have to buy.

If you change oil and filter, add 4.5qt.

If you change oil only, add 4.2qt

Reference your owner's manual, pg. 256.

To the OP, you'll be fine.

why the extra ....'s added on?

you're correct tho, that's why i carry an extra qt. and add some when/if i need to.

0.3 qt for oil left in the filter...

yes I change the filter with the oil and added the 4.5 qts spec in the manual..didnt think much about it until i checked my oil ebefore changing it and it was at the midway mark on the dipstick, granted I had changed it accoriding to the mid this time instead of my normal 3k...this winter has been brutal here in mass..really no good days to work on the car outside
