HID help!
So, both of my headlights are lit, but the drivers side Hi-Beam isnt working...
Now, from what i understand, these cars dont use a "dual" filament bulb, its just the way the light reflects. (you put on the hi-beam, the projector opens up a different angle)
So my question is... is the bulb bad? or do I have some other underlaying problems?
Thanks guys!

it's me, Alan Rickman.
Single bulb, but the HID housing contains a shutter that will open and close, which will expand and contract the light emitted - sounds like your shutter failed, to the dealer for warranty you go!

fudddgeeee.
cause i just changed the bulbs to 8000k, and they will probably give me shit over this... so im gonna have to put the OEM bulbs back in, and go through the whole process...
could it be i didnt put something back right when i replaced the bulbs? i didnt unplug any connectors, but maybe one "fell" out
does anybody know if there is a wire harness connector for the shutter?

the base of the bulb has a small notch that you line up with the housing socket. if that doesnt match, it is quite possible that when you switched to high beams and the motor moved, the bulb could have been loged in place and/or the mirror/shutter mechanism that moves out of the way could have been damaged/stuck.
it would be best you put things back to stock carefully and see from there.

It's possible if the bulb is upside down or something that and it reaches far enough into the housing that the shutter is being held back, try your OEM bulb on that side and see what happens

ah ha! that could be the problem. The driver side bulb was a little difficult to get in and manuever, as there is very little room in that section. The passenger side had room, so i made sure everything was locked into place securely.
ugh. back to the drawing board. Do you guys realize what a PITA it is to change these bulbs lol
thanks for the feedback

i remember unplugging that connector, and not plugging it back!! im goign to go try that right now

you know how i found out what that connector was? i was tinkering around under the hood to see which was which, and i saw that plug. unplugged it and turned on the HIDs. no effect. i then thought to myself ""could be for the motor for the high beams" but never really checked.
guess i was right.
glad I can help a fellow WDP

Also don't forget to plug in the connector for the projector shutter, failure to do so will cause sudden panic, resulting in posting on Acurazine about a possible housing problem, which results in further panic causing you to order an additional set of bulbs and prepare to reinstall your OEM bulbs
Well that's a bit much, what are the odds of that happening?

look man, i've baked and blacked out over 15 sets of 3G headlights for members, but i never changed the HID bulbs because of that little sticker that says 25,000 volts CAN KILL
i just realized now, all you really gotta do is unplug the battery, and there wont be any volts!
<-- in a dumb fog for the past 2 years
