HID Headlight Igniter 2004 TL

So I have a 2004 TL with Nav, and my passenger headlight blew, so I bought 2 D2S headlights off Amazon and was going to replace the old set. No big deal, headlights go out all the time. I wanted to check on the fuses first though, so I see fuse #6 in the fuse box under the hood is blown. I replace it, turn the headlights on, and hear it blow again. This fuse is for the Igniter it says on the right light. So I replace it again, turn the headlights on, and it blows again. Instead of wasting all the 15A fuses I have I decide to ask for opinions here first. I have not yet taken out the bulb so I can't say whether the bulb is blown. I do know that on that side I have only fogs, no Hi beam, no Low beam.

Thoughts?

Definitely the Igniter im going thru the same exact issues now.. now the hard part is finding someone who can replace it instead of paying the dealership $300 to replace it ..

Funny, I'm going through the same thing as well today. Anyone have the part number for the new igniter, and/or a DIY?? Thanks!

heres the part number and price from acuraoemparts.com...

011 33129-S2A-J01 IGNITER, HID 002 2005 TL 167.42

Install is a GIANT PITA....gotta remove the bumper...then remove the headlight....then install it and then put it all back together....there is a DIY video on the 3G Garage showing how to take off the bumper and then theres another 6 bolts or so you gotta take off...I hope its the drivers side cause the passengers side is a bigger bitch to remove.

It's not so bad. You can get the bumper on and off in under an hour..the headlight work on the other hand will make that possibly a 1.5 hour job.

I took my headlights off to reseat the HID bulbs i put in and got everything back together in 1.5

I didnt remove the washer tank completely on the passenger side. Just 3 bolts and you can tilt it out of the way.

Its not a hard job, but it is a pain....especially for someone who has not done this before....It took me wayyy longer than an hour the first time I did this....but now once the car is jacked up I could easily take the bumper off in 15 minutes.

UPDATE!:
I got the bumper and both headlights out this afternoon and before I decided to pull the igniter out I decided to just swap ballasts, and sure enough the damned thing came on. So just a word to the wise, test your ballast as well as the igniter before you go and spend $140+ on an igniter!

Oh, and just for the record - this was the first time I've ever pulled a bumper off and it takes no time at all. The headlight took about 15 minutes for the first one and 5 for the second. If I can do it, anyone can!!

I also had my driver's side headlight blow.....brought it to the acura dealership and they determined i needed a bulb and igniter and recommended replacing the whole headlight assembly due to the fact that moisture caused the shortage......all for a MEASLEY $120 estimate!!! I went home and ordered 2 new bulbs and an igniter off of e-bay for $375 put in the new bulbs and igniter and still had nothing, had another garage look at it and they said it was the ballast. I gave up at that point a year ago and have been driving with just my foglights. I haven't found the time or extra money to mess with it yet.

As am I, If you buy brighter DRLs it seems legit and keeps the police away until the complete darkness.

bulb size 9005.

not to bring up an old thread but the DRL is a 9006 not 9005. Also my HIDs work fine but I just installed 3200 lumen LED in my DRL and they are much brighter than my factory HIDs. Im actually about to change out my HID for LED. Not to mention the are only 90$ instead of the 1200 the dealer is asking

HID Headlight Igniter 2004 TL

Hello, I am a little new to this site but LOVE it. I have an 04 TL and my passenger HID light started to flicker a few months ago. Now it have no lights on passenger side at all. Had Ballast/igniter replaced, HID light tested and works but still no power. Of course fuses been checked, could it be the switch inside the car where you turn the lights on? I had my mechanic look at it and he said there is no power getting to the passenger side to the lights. ANY other suggestions would be great and appreciated, this has been a frustrating few weeks for me. Thank you!
