HID Fog Light Issue
HID Fog Light Issue
If this is in the wrong forum I apologize in advance, so Ron move it if you need to
As of now I have the front bumper off from my TL and I've successfully added a nice set of Morimoto HID ballasts and HID bulbs to the fog lights. One problem though which I'm kicking myself for: I didn't think of the fact that when the high beams kick on the fog lights turn off. With on-coming traffic and constant hi-low beam clicking of the stock it's really not good for the HID setup.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to get around this? Is there a thread somewhere? I haven't been able to locate one.
I've been thinking of several scenarios:
1.) Direct wire it to my own switch; but if I do, won't I get an error code if I turn the fog lights on with the stock switch b/c there is no power? Or worse, I'll double the power to the ballasts?
2.) Does anyone know the specific wire on the blinker stock that goes to the wiring harness that is the power lead that I can tap into to make a work-around into my own switch?
3.) Something else, or some other successful setup someone has done?
Thank you VERY much in advance. I'd like to get this think back together ASAP and the more the help the better.
Also, not that I'm advertising too much but Matt at TRS (The Retrofit Source) really has some very high quality components and is definitely the place to go for excellent service, fast delivery and reliable equipment. I've used their stuff for quite some time and I have always been impressed with the reliability of the Morimoto brand. So, if you're out there Matt, thank you!
Cheers,
MI6

Success
I'll write more tonight as right now I'm at work but this project turned out to be an amazing success. I'll take some photo's and see if I can post them too. It turned out very slick and, most of all, very OEM-looking. I'll give the specifics about what switch I used, the wiring, and how I integrated it into the factory wiring harness so that not only can I use the existing fuses but also revert back to OEM should I trade it in someday.
Here's what you are looking for a DIY for independant fog lights on the OEM switch.

I've got an 05 with a 07-08 Base nose end conversion with HID lower fogs. I used a KC Hilights universal fog wiring kit. The kit included a relay and fuse, so I wired right off the battery. I used a little switch with a blue LED, and mounted in the blank.
The nice think is that its independent, minimal intrusion on the factory wiring, and easy to revert back to OEM.
