Hi, new here and have a heating issue

Hi, I tried to search it but didnt see anything on it.

My daily driver is a 2005 Acura TL and its got about 108k miles on it.

Here's the problem:

1. Set the temp to 85
2. Drive - blows hot air
3. Stop at a light - starts to blow cold air ... wtf?

Is this normal? what could be the issue? Could I be having a break down and this is all happening in my head?

:annoyed :

^^^Don't know what the solution is, but that's not normal.

Take it to the dealer or trusted mechanic. Sounds to me like bad climate control thermostat. If you are at a stand still and it goes cold, what happens if and when you rev the motor?

You're probably very low on coolant. Check the overflow tank by the radiator. If it's full, carefully pull the cap off the radiator *ONCE IT'S COLD*.

not sure how the mixing boxes are actuated, but that sounds like a vacuum leak to me

I've tried revving the engine but it still blows cold air. Funny thing is my husband is a mechanic at a big Honda dealership and either he doesn't believe me or doesn't care

Thanks guys

Guess I'll have to get one of his friends to take a look at it.

That's pretty crappy that your husband won't look at it for you! I guess he'd rather spend hundreds of dollars for you to take it to a shop.

Just take a look at the overflow tank at the radiator and see if it's empty.

Same thing was happening with me in my '03 350Z. I realized I was low on coolant. Added coolant, didn't fix the issue so I took it to a radiator guy. He told me when it got low it created an "air pocket" if you will in the heater core, under power enough coolant was forced into the core to create heat but at idle there wasn't enough force to get coolant into the core. He flushed the system which forced the air out of the core and got my coolant up to the correct level, problem solved.

Oh yeah, fire your husband.

I checked the coolant level and it was fine. Also mentioned it to my husband and he said he did a coolant flush when I first got the car which was like 3 months ago.

Long shot but.....does your engine temperature gauge fluctuate? More than likely not but I was hinting toward the suggestion of a fully/partially stuck open thermostat?

Driving, circulating the coolant at revs higher than idle = more flow/heat.

Just a thought, best of luck!
