Help! Rear Seat Bolt Stuck

Hey everyone,

I am seriously stuck. I am trying to remove my rear bench seat to install coilovers and this freaking lower bench bolt will NOT come off!

I broke it free and now it just keep spinning and spinning. My guess is that it snapped off at the threads. However, I cannot be certain at this time.

I tried getting a hammer and a chisel in there, but I cannot separate the top hat of the bolt. The bolt is too strong. I also tried wedging a flat head screwdriver in there and prying upwards while trying to loosen the bolt. That didn't work either. I can't get a dremel in there with a cutting disc without cutting the seat's leather, so I don't know what to do. The picture above was taken from Deathmetal, but there is not that much space between the lower bench and the backing. In this photo, the lower bench is already removed. I can barely get my fingers into the bolt's location.

I am so frustrated. I have been messing with this stupid bolt for like 2 hours. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd use something like this: https://smile.amazon.com/Lisle-35400...-no-redirect=1

and a ratchet and just keep pressure on it and loosening until it comes out.

You should be able to remove it if you snapped it at the threads. It threads into the shell of the car? Also, when you do get it out, you don't have to put it back in. I left mine out.

Thanks for the replies guys! After battling with this thing some more, I just yanked up on the seats and the head of the bolt snapped off. I have no idea where the threads went, but they were not stuck in the shell of the car. I am not going to put that one back in. Screw that dang thing! Onward with my day...

I had the same problem with that same bench seat bolt. Just had to yank it out.

It's the passenger side bolt between the bench and the backrest of my 2005 TL. Same issue, it's just spinning. Most frustrating thing Ive dealt with in a while. Did you end up finding a solution that didn't involve tearing up the seats because I am about to.

Sorry, I didn't read down far enough. Glad you got it out. I will keep working on it. Thank you guys.

Yep, just pull hard on the seats and my guess is that the bolt will snap off. Best of luck!

Pull up on the seat while turning the bolt, the threads are easy to strip out so it just spins. Since the bolt is at an angle, you have to use some force to get it free when it starts doing that. I ended up retapping the threads on mine many years ago.
