Help with rear part of the interior
08 TL
I'm trying to isolate a loud rattle you can hear with the volume above 20. It sounds like it's coming from the area around the rear deck.
It's a clicking/squeaky/creaky noise that gets worse on bumpy roads.
So far I've removed:
The 3rd brake light and its housing
The back seat, top and bottom
The rear deck top cover (speaker cover)
All three rear seat belts
This plastic housing that has a computer chip inside... I think it's some sort of sensor
The rear deck undercover
I've also moved the cable that is connects to the emergency trunk opener and placed something around it to see if that might have been it... nope.
With the car parked I try knocking the rear deck too with my hand, and I can't seem to reproduce the noise.
It almost sounds like something is major is loose or not assembled properly, like the rear glass or maybe the whole damn rear deck.
I've so far only been able to reproduce the noise driving along though, and naturally, when I brought it to the dealer once it didn't want to make the noise.
It seems to like to make the noise more at night when it's cooler. In the day time not as much. Of course, dealerships are only open during the day.
I'm thinking about maybe seeing if they can just take the thing for a week, give me a loaner, and let a tech drive it as much as he pleases. Shit, he could take it on a trip somewhere if he fixed the problem lol.
Then of course...
center console rattle
driver's side adjustable storage compartment rattle that I don't know how to fix that happens when it's shut all the way
passenger side rattle
but those are all minor compared to the main one lol.
Disappointing coming from a rattleless 06 Accord I guess
My 01 Volvo S40, brother's 02 GMC Sierra w/ 90k miles, dad's 07 TL, mom's 02 Camry, friend's 02 Jetta... the list goes on... don't have nearly the rattling problems I have with mine... is this normal for Acura these days? =/
Any suggestions / things to try / things to remove would be appreciated.

I would check that the speakers are nice and tight, and also turn up some music with heavy bass to see if you can isolate the rattle.
For the rattle in the door, remove the sunglass holder from there, the rattle will be gone, or put weatherstriping type foam on the sides and bottom.
For the center console, put foam around the top and bottom of the two flippy compartments in CF trim.

I had the same sort of rear end noise, and took it to the dealership. I am an engineer so I am OCD about rattles, and I drove around with the tech for like 20 min to find the right kind of road surface to reproduce the noise. It happened when I went over a larger joint in concrete pavement mostly. It turned out to be a bad rear strut. Just a thought.
