Help, I am a moron

today I heard a pop (after work) and my cruise control stopped working. I looked in my trusty "04-05" service manualand it said it could be a fuse under dash or under hood. well it looked like I did have a bad fuse. HERE'S WHERE I GET INTO WETAD MODE: I drove to autozone without this fuse in and now I got that check engine light on. on top of that, It did not reset the c/c when I replaced the fuse. If I hold the c/c button down(to engage) I can exel n decel... but it won't stay down.
?1 where is the back up clock fuse (found on search) to reset... or what number under dash or hood, etc?

?2 what is the fix for a c/c that works when u hold the button down (but pop out)?

Did you have autozone read the code for the CEL? I think that's the bigger concern right now, not the cruise control.

Check fuse #13 (20A) in the underhood fuse box and fuse #18 (15A) in the under dash fuse box.

Does your horn work? Does your speedometer work?

Well, sounds like it may just be a failed CC switch. They have been noted to fail. Do a search, there are several folks who have had this happen.

However, as previously mentioned, you should go to a local auto parts store and have them read the code. Don't know what to tell you about the "pop". Since you indicated in your first post that you had to replace fuse 13, its' possible the CC switch shorted out causing the "pop" sound and blowing the fuse, which in turn killed the CC system.

Fuse 13 also controls the MICU and the ECM/PCM. It's possible that you got a one time light due to the ECM/PCM and/or MICU dropping off-line when that fuse blew.

light just shut off like nothin happened.
the book says in order to change out the switch disconnect the battery and then remove the airbag...huh? it looks like you can just take 2 screws out of the back and pop out the assembly. any thoughts on this or am I s.o.l. and gotta take her in?
btw thanks for the intel. answers

Sounds like the spring in the switch may have broken, causing the button to not engage. That would also explain the "pop" you heard. You do have to remove the airbag to get to this switch, but its not difficult. Check the 3G Garage for the thread on replacing the lights in the steering wheel with LEDs for instructions on removing it.
