Heating problems..
just want to start off by saying hi to everyone in new to this forum, i bought a 2006 tl ( with navi ) this week and im LOVING ITTTTT :P only problem im having right now is im not getting much heat and i need heat its freezing here in quebec canada :P sometimes the heat works fine perfectly hot, and than other times heats up and gets cold again when the car is stopped...at first i though it was maybe because i didnt know how to set up the tempature in the car but now im pretty sure its the heating system which is the problem . any help would be appericated , i was going to take it to the garage this weekend. i know NOTHING about cars so details would be cool so i can explain it to the mechanic

Check temp gauge to see if thermostat is operating properly as needle should be up from cold.
When cold, check water level in radiator, not overflow container, to make certain it's full.
Check movement of heater control valve, engine compartment in front of firewall. Check heater hoses before and after valve to make certain they're same temp.

How long does it take at idle for the heat to cool down?
It could be the water valve is not fully open, the thermostat is sticking open, or there is nothing wrong at all and you expect too much heat. If you're talking about -20ēC temps, the car can really struggle to keep the cabin warm. Of course you should check the coolant level and just get that out of the way. It takes a few seconds.
