Headlight Auto-On Problem

I have a 2008 TL, Type S and am having a problem with the headlight auto-off delay feature. Here's the message I sent to my salesman, who offered no help:

With the headlight switch in the AUTO position and setting the headlight delay to 60 seconds, it seems that the headlights are supposed to remain on (for a minute) after removing the key and exiting the vehicle. They don't. Rather, they turn off when the key is removed. The manual seems to be clear that they should remain on. (The delay feature works when the headlight switch is left in the ON position. But that defeats the advantage of the AUTO feature.)

Thanks.

Not sure exactly how the auto on/off works on an 08 but, possibly like an 04-06 with settings within the mid based on which user key is used?

I thought the auto on/off was a sensor that activates the headlights when it gets dark at night (at least thats what it was like on my Nissan...)?

^Agreed. The auto on/off feature is supposed to be for switching to dark driving, I believe. However, in my dad's 08 MDX, when I exit the car and lock it the headlights do remain on for about a minute or so. But I have not paid attention as to whether the headlights were in the 'on' or 'auto' position but I'm pretty sure it was the auto position.

the headlights are not supposed to stay on after the car is shut off and the setting is on the auto mode. it only stays on if the switch is set on the on position.

Thanks for the reply. I consider the advantage of the AUTO headlight feature to be that you set the switch to AUTO and forget it. (I'm sounding like Ron Popeil.) But, if you want the lights to remain on for a bit after exiting the car (a safety feature), you have to move the switch to ON before exiting the vehicle. (That's what I meant by the delay "defeating" the AUTO.) Having the two features work together -- as clearly stated in the Owner's Manual -- makes sense. My question to the forum was whether the problem is my car or the Owner's Manual. The consensus seems to be that the Owner's Manual is incorrect.

Thanks to you and the others who provided assistance.
