Harsh jerk when shift from 1st to 2nd

I have a 07 Automatic Type S. This happens only in sport shift mode. When i drive it hard, and i mean stepping the pedal to the floor from a deadstop, shifting from 1st into 2nd at a high rpm range (anywhere from 5500 to 7000rpm) the car will make this very hard jerking motion. Its almost like you're being rear-ended. Mind you that, my foot is on the pedal, i'm not easing off the gas or anything between shifts. Also VSA is on. Yes I have replaced all 3 pressure switches with OEM ones, and all of the engine and transmission mounts have been replaced. Also the ATF has been changed with OEM fluid.

Is this normal?? It does not happen in automatic mode.

I'd say yes as the trans won't up shift until the RPM's bump on the redline, then shift hard.

At higher RPM's, you want the shifts to be harsher because it means the clutch packs are slipping against each other less. As far as I understand, the smooth shifts in an auto transmission are a result of the clutch packs slipping against each other. At increased RPM, if that slipping continued, you would risk burning the clutch packs up very quickly, hence harsher shifts with increased RPMs.

I have never red-lined my car and the '06 won't let you "manually" shift between 1st and 2nd, so it's not something I've personally experienced, but that's my guess, especially if you have done all the transmission and engine mounts.

I hope you're right

Hello, I feel the same kinda jerk as well...not as violent as you describe though. Normally when in high RPM from 2nd to 3rd and to 4th...smooths out into 5th, but I'm also leaning off the pedal. I do have a weird light "double jerk" when shifting from Neutral to 1st. in auto-mode; the transmission has been running for a while and hot...

None of the stuff I mention happens with vsa off however. It must be the vsa kicking in between shifts to prevent wheel spin as it only happens in low gears as there is more torque present. My car does have a few mods like pcd, light weight pulley, cat delete etc

If anyone has the clutch break in procedure done, I’d love to hear if it fixes the issue. Experiencing the same on my ASPEC.

you might benefit from an upgraded engine torque damper and better mounts.
