Hard start

Guys, is there any reason that on occasion my car will start hard? It's an 06 auto with 76,xxx miles. It will crank hard and take its sweet time to finally come to life. It sounds like it will fire, but it chugs at a real low rpm then finally idle like normal. I should also point out this doesn't happen consistently. It's happened since I bought the car in last October but only happens randomly. Any ideas?

I've only had my TL for a few months but have had this happen occasionally to me too. However, I do think it's normal because I remember reading somewhere in the manual that it could happen and not to worry about it. Sorry I'm not more help at this point but will try to find where I read that and post it later.

My TL does this as well sometimes..I have been trying to figure out why and if there is a fix..Sometimes when I remote start it, it wont start on the first attempt, then on the second try, it will start but exactly how you are describing it...Its very strange and bothers me...I do have 149K..

I remember reading somewhere in the manual that the car may take a little longer to start than normal on occasion due to the ecu adjusting to the outside conditions that the car may be in at the time of cold start. Correct me if I am wrong.

This is correct. In the 2006 TL Quick Start Guide on the second page it has a subject - Things you need to know. The first statement is - At times, the engine may take longer to start than usual; the engine management software is working to reduce emissions at startup.
