Half shaft bearing failure

My wife's 2006 TL 5AT has leaking grease from the half shaft bearing where it connects to the passengers side CV joint. Her car only has 48k miles and this bearing has already been replaced once. The power train warranty is still good but this seems ridiculous to have to replace this bearing every 25k miles. I have done many searches but have not found any information about this.

Is this a common failure?

CV boots, especially the outer, are a common failure with FWD vehicles, but having 2 in 48k is far from the ordinary. Check to make certain nothing is contacting the boot when the wheel is turned to the extreme in each direction when the suspension is loaded, on the ground, not on a lift.

I've seen boots that have been installed and not clamped properly turn on the shaft and then split, or lowered cars that need to have the boots replaced more frequently because of the extreme suspension angles, but on a stock vehicle they will usually last quite a long time.

Thanks for the reply.

The car is stock but it is not leaking from the CV boot. It is actually leaking from the bearing located near the end CV joint. It appear to me that the bearing seal keeps going bad due to heat. There a two different sections of exhuast pipe located very close.

I didn't know if this was a common thing or not.

Are you speaking of the half shaft bearing located in the support? There is a heat shield to protect the bearing, but some residue will be evident. Are you saying that the bearing is destroyed, or just evidence of grease residue?

Yes, I am refering to bearing with the heat sheilds. The heat sheilds, bearing housing, and bearing was dry for approximately the first 25k miles, then started leaking. The dealer replaced it under the warranty. Everything has been dry again until I noticed this weekend it is leaking again. There is quite a bit of wet oily residue on the housing, heat sheild and bearing. This does not seem normal to me but I could be wrong.

I forgot to add the bearing is not destroyed and may last a while but you never know how long it will last leaking signficantly.
