Grrr - dead battery with no obvious explanation

Had an unhappy surprise yesterday - my TL's battery was dead. grrrr...

There is no obvious reason. I didn't leave any lights on; the only thing running was the alarm system. I had last driven the car 10 days earlier (I work from home so I seldom drive). The battery had sufficient power to run the electricals, but not to start the car. I don't get it

I jumped it using my husband's car, gave it a good half-hour drive, and now it's fine. Weird...

what year is your car and are you still on a stock battery? and how many miles on your car... reason i ask is im at 55,000 and my battery goes dead very easily in my 04 TL like if i leave the electic on for more then 1-2 minutes no exageration and i think stock batteries start loosing life around 60,000 miles?

The oem battery is notorious for not lasting very long. If you've had it for 2 years, I'd say it was about time. I swapped into a yellow top after 2 years.

2 years? Don't exaggerate. Mine is almost 5 years old and still good.

Does anyone know how much power the factory alarm system uses? Would it be a good idea to disable it if not driving for a long time? Is there a way to lock the car without enabling the alarm?

I've had the TL for pretty-much-exactly two years (I just renewed my registration). Yup, stock battery. It's an '07 with maybe 7000 miles on it - like I said, I seldom drive, but around here you NEED a car, plus the TL is pretty sweet (although I miss my Vigor).

I guess I'm in the market for a replacement battery, then. :-/ Any suggestions?

It'll be a cold day in Hell when I disable my alarm. My Vig was stolen. (And recovered, but I was carless for a month while the impound lot fought with my insurance adjuster.) I even lock my car when it's in the garage... my husband makes fun of me for that, but he's never had the experience of a beloved vehicle going *poof*.

In any case, a battery should still have sufficient charge to start the car after 10 days.

^ lol i've had some what of an experience along the same lines...but my car was only towed it was a mistake! i've never yelled at a stranger before, but BOY did I tell that lady who authorized it! lol

anyways, i haven't had much experience with batteries, but once mine oem went dead (was replaced under warranty the first time around), I bought myself an optima battery - yellow top. I've had it for 2 years now, and it starts up strong every time. cold starts are no longer an issue! but they do come with a hefty price tag...
i'm sure others will chime in good luck!

That's true, especially a 2007. The OE battery in our '04 gave out last month (5 years). Lasted quite a while and had only been driven 800 miles since last July.

Check with the dealer for a free replacement, also check the TSB:

From the 3G garage

Could be a warranty issue with your 07 TL. Check to see if this TSB could be causing your issue.
