I have an '04 MT TL, live in Seattle so it's constantly cold and wet during the fall/winter. The last couple of mornings I can hear what sounds to be grinding near my front right wheel when turning to the left. After three turns I don't hear the sound anymore. Any idea what it may be? There is no clicking sound, so I don't think it's the CV axle, but I could be wrong. Brakes and rotors were replaced 5 months ago, haven't had any issues except squealing.

 

My 05 started doing the same last winter and it doing it again this winter. Last winter I had a shop check my CV boots and they were all fine. Hopefully someone will chime in.

I dont believe CV joins generate a steady grinding noise.

If you have a loud/low ticking noise when turning that would be the CV.

 

My car is kept in my garage which is at least 55 degrees throughout the winter and it's not a whine, it's definitely a grinding sound near the wheel.
