Grinding sound....??
Just got home from a nice cruise on my UA6, im getting a thump sound while going from stop to motion in my front end... Also when accelerating i am getting this grinding feeling on the steering wheel plus on floor from the front wheels on 1-3rd gear, just started today..
Could it be my Innovative mounts(75A)?? Done!? If so i think im going back to stock ones.... Expect chime in if u ever experienced this b4.
Thanks

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure if you get an axle from auto zone, they have one that comes with a lifetime warranty. therefore, every time it breaks (and it will break) you can bring it back and get a new one at no cost. I did that with an integra w/ an H22 swap. That thing went through axles like Gene Simmons goes through sex partners. I'm not sure what the price difference is between OEM and something from the parts stores.. if it's not a big difference, go OEM.

I had bad luck using NEW GSP (Advance Auto) axles on a 98 VW Passat...they vibrated on acceleration after installing both sides. Eventually I'll replace them under the lifetime warranty, but it's anyone's guess if they'll be made/balanced better.
OTOH, I used a NEW GSP axle on a 3G Integra and never had a problem...it was sold ~10K miles later.
If you plan on keeping the car, I'd look into raxles. I've heard good things about them; oem or better quality and reasonably priced.
OEM Axles are ~$160 online w/o shipping

When i replaced the driver side i did not use OEM, maybe thats wats causing this grinding feeling in my front end...?
Yea im assuming they will swap it out for a new one with no problems, wish i had there axle on but i dont
Did u really? Thats exactly the one im lookin into, hmmm what to do what to do... Im def keeping this car for awhile... Should i try those GSP or should i just go with raxles, ill be checking my axles out in a matter of hours ill see if theres anything visible if not then im just going to have to pull the trigger on any of those 2 (raxles or GSP)

Atleast email Raxles and get a quote from them.
I saw that the NEW GSP axles are ~$70, but from my own experience and from what I've read, it's hit or miss with each one.
One thing to think about is that on Hondas and Acuras, it's necessary to pop the lower balljoint to replace an axle. On that VW, this was not necessary. Everytime you pop a balljoint, you weaken it somewhat. If you get a bad GSP axle, you'll have to pop it again...maybe requiring a replacement sooner than expected.
Please let me know what Raxles quotes you, as I'm curious to know. They quoted me ~$130/axle for my old 5G Accord a few years ago including a prepaid shipping label for the old axle. If your old axle is not OEM, I'm unsure about Raxles policy.
BTW, do you notice the noise gets worse when making righthand turns? I just want you to make sure it's the axle before you purchase a new one. If the noise doesn't change when turning and gets louder/more noticeable with increased speed in any direction, it could be a wheel bearing.

I don't want to be a downer but don't get your hopes up that the axle will fix anything.
Put it in gear and with your foot on the brake, hit the gas sharply and quickly and see if you can reproduce the noise. Do the same in reverse and see if it's any better or worse.
It's possible the thump could be the mounts and grinding the axles but it's more likely the thump is the engine moving on initial acceleration and the grinding is something going metal to metal once the engine moves to it's unintended position.

IHC i did wat u told me to do, put my car on 1st and in reverse, brake down and accelerate no movements on the engine, Axle fixed the viration but that thump is still there! Dammit wished IHC lived near.
How often does the lil tranny mount below the battery go out? My car is an 04 so i kno it must be destroyed already
