grinding 3rd gear ('08 TL S)
When shifting into 3rd gear, it sometimes grinds. timing was off. I was told by a mechanic friend of mine that it was b/c i drive it too hard. is this true?
had acura fix it (under warranty). they didn't say anything about my driving habits.

Funny. I've seen the TBS for this problem several times, but this is the first time I ever noticed that it said this:
"2004–07 TL with M/T – ALL"
It should say, "2004–07 TL with M/T – ALL - 1" because my '04 manual has never had anything remotely problematic with its transmission in nearly 79,000 miles and I rather doubt it is about to start having any problems. I would bet there are a bunch of other owners just like me as well, so perhaps it would be better if it said,
"2004–07 TL with M/T – ALL - n"

I use to have the same problem before and the one day i caught it and i came to realize that when you clutch all the way in you gotta make sure your throw the gear ALL the way in.. (I know its obvious that thats what people would normally do) but my friend had the same problem with his 3 gear and that was his solution also

There are several things you can do to extend the life of your synchronizers and in view of the fact that it seems Honda/Acura saw fit not to do their job correctly, this is something your may wish to consider:
- Avoid quick shifts when upshifting. Instead, let the shift occur "naturally".
- Double clutch downshifts. A major factor in reducing synchronizer wear.
- Make sure that you completely disengage the clutch prior to completing the shift.
- Don't skip shift upshifts. This is a technique which can be learned properly, but since it is rarely needed, try to avoid this. If you must do it, wait for engine speed to drop to where it needs to be for the shift.
- Avoid resting your hand on the shifter when in neutral sitting at a light and with the clutch engaged. Small hand movements when doing this can cause the shifter linkgage to force engagement of synchronizers.
