Glitch 5A/T?

Yes yes...I had to drive up and down I95 for high school. I got the 5A/T... Please don't kill me.

Last night I was driving home from 5 Guys and got a bit spirited on the on ramp for the highway. To make it brief here's what happened:

On ramp is a 180 degree turn, road was damp from rain earlier in the day. While exiting my turn, I gave my TL some gas and got the wheels spinning (TC off, sport-shift, about half throttle, first gear). She shifted up to 2 and continued to spin her wheels, so I gave her a bit more gas and got up to about 65 when I wanted to shift to 3. No dice. So I'm cruising on the highway at 5k rpm (VRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-) ~55 mph now, trying to shift into 3rd. I pop it back into auto mode, and still no shift. I popped into neutral, cruised a bit, brought my RPM up to ~2.5k and put it back into D, then immediately sport-shift (the car pops into 4th, so I wanted to pre-rev the gears. don't know if it works or not with an A/T, feel free to tell me if you know).

Anyone else have this happen to them? It was a bit funny for a little, then I realized I'd be near redline to go the speed limit in 2nd

never happened to me. I noticed the car will downshift sometimes and blip the throttle. All gears on mine work fine no issues

Yeah, I've never had anything like that happen! Trans is still smooth at 113k miles, and after "resetting" the transmission in neutral, it worked just like it never happened. Weird.

Time to replace your Transmission sensors! look in the garage for the DIY.

managed to pull up an old thread from 2005, and one from 2011...sounds like it's a "well known" glitch with our VSA system/ECU when spinning on wet roads. Especially since i started my wheelspin in a turn, I can see how I might've freaked the ECU out

current theory is that I had my wheels spinning when VTEC kicked in. I would bet money that sensing different speeds between the 2 front wheels, +VTEC = safe mode trans/no shift. I feel like it's a similar feature as our Neutral 5500RPM lock (we can't engage vtec without drivetrain tension)

The only time I've ever had my tranny act up is in auto mode when it would hang shifting into third and it rarely did it but I use ss mode 99% of the time so idk if it even does it anymore
