Gas Mileage Help Please

I drive 90% city and 10% highway. My average gas mileage is 16-18. I know that it is suppose to be normal, but this gas mileage is killing me. I refill my tank after about 230 miles. I've heard seafoaming my engine would help increase my gas mileage by 1-2 mpg, BUT i've also heard that it can be bad for my car. I am not too sure though, However if anyone knows a way to increase gas mileage please let me know! I will definetely appreciate your help. Thank you!!

Should have bought a 4 cylinder car.
I drive purely city and get the same mileage as you. 16-19mpg.

I wouldn't run seafoam on a fairly new car. (fairly new = anything less 100,000 miles)
What year is your car? and how many miles?

I have to disagree about not seafoaming a car under 100k. I did a complete seafoam on my car just after 60k. My TB was nasty and you could eat off of it afterwards (i would not recommend that and take no responsibility for diarrhea or death if you are so inclined as to try). I also noticed a nice improvement in throttle response afterwards.

BTW, i average 21 MPG and i drive my car like i am sure most other AZ'ers do.

im at 38k and my throttle body is clean as a whistle. I checked while doing the slave cylinder check valve delete this weekend. I wanted to clean my throttle body...but there wasnt anything to clean!!!

Case by case basis. my car is running in tip top shape.

If you're in heavy stop and go traffic, that sort of city mileage is most likely to be expected. When I was working and took my '04 manual TL to work, I drove both ways through a small city and residential areas. The best I ever got doing this was the second summer I had the car. I managed 27.98 MPG. My normal ranged around 25.5 to 26 MPG on this same route in the summer later on.

If you have a 3G TL, you MUST use at least 91 octane fuel. You should only use a lower grade fuel in an emergency and if you do, dilute it as soon as possible with premium fuel.

Seafoaming isn't going to help as it is just the nature of the beast. The TL A/T has an EPA rating of 18 city, TL-S 17 city, so, sorry to say, what you see if what you get.

I drive a 08 TLS AT and 17-18 sounds about right. if you want to maximize your mpg i tried using the tip tronic shifter to keep the car somewhere around 3000-3500 rpm. This helps a little bit but not so much...hands down you will need to get a 4 banger for a commuter in the city.

^ Why would you want to keep your car at such high rev ranges? If you're looking to save gas, you want the revs to be as low as possible before bogging the engine down. 3000rpm isn't ideal, below 2000 is at most cruising speeds.
