A few days ago a large tree branch fell on my Acura, causing extensive damage.
Everything else is repairable without too much hassle, however i found out that this is called an "A Pillar" and apparently if damaged enough it can simply become a write off, or end up costing over a thousand dollars to repair.
Does this look like it affected the frame, or the "outer shell" of the A Pillar? I don't know if Acura's have "outer shells" around the pillars or not, i only just recently heard of the term while doing research.
There is no "outershell" for that frame its a 1 piece and yes A pillar damage can result in a total depending on age and mileage on your vehicle. Looking at yours it doesnt look too bad but only shop can truly estimate the damage but I would say your damage will be over $1000 for sure including cost of the windshield in there as well.

IMO; Really difficult to tell, from the pics. To me, the damage, doesn't look terrible, or non-repairable, as the A pillar alignment, with the windshield, appears to be good!
Your insurance Adjuster, will be quick to evaluate the issue, and recommend options. Good luck.
The A pillar stiffener from top of door and meets the frame at the bottom of the car.
The inside line (windshield side) looks straight, and if the window side isn't compromised the body can be pulled and refinished.

To clarify the window still opens and closes perfectly fine, and the door itself opens and closes perfectly fine. If someone were in the car and not able to see the outside, they'd have no idea anything was wrong with it. I think i lucked out with it mostly grazing it, as opposed to being even just an inch or half inch more towards the windshield.
