Found something unnerving during my air filter change
I went ahead and changed my engine air filter today, which by the way was a breeze! But I found that the hosing connecting to the engine (I think, I don't know much about cars :P) broke off.

Sorry for the dark/terrible pics (iphone = suck). But you can see that the hosing broke off. Part of it is still under the clamp, and the other part is just kind of hanging there. I assume this has some negative effect on the airflow? But what other problems will I potentially run into? Also how hard will it to be to get this taken care of? I don't know much about cars so thanks ahead of time!

Did you break this when changing your filter, or just found it when you opened the hood?
If it's been this way for awhile, and your engine has been sucking in unfiltered air, I would suggest seafoaming and thanking a higher power that your engine isn't destroyed

That hose is less than $20 bucks at the Dealer Parts desk.

Just buy a new hose and replace it. Cutting and reclamping you run the risk of the seal not being that good, and you'll get unfiltered air (and all the crap in it) going directly into the engine.
It's not a super expensive part, just replace it.

good thing to check for anyone who let a shop do their service- air filter may have been ck'd or replaced
I have found the hose clamps loose on more than one car~
hose broken- replace immedialty, simple!
Seafoam it with `deep creep` aerosol thru the master vac port at TB/manifold and thru the TB inlet - have helper turn key on and off a few times so the TB plate opens and closes in self test- allowing you to spray both sides clean

[QUOTE=db78;11954460]I found out when I open the hood. I remember getting my TL checked out a month ago before I bought it and the dealership didn't say anything. Maybe it just happened recently? Either way I think I'll run seafoam through after getting the hose replaced. I heard you're supposed to change your spark plugs after running seafoam? Is this mandatory? I don't have the tools/space/knowledge to change spark plugs on my own and I believe they were recently changed.
Well then, this becomes a totally different animal than what what has been provided earlier for advice.
Seafoam and a change of plugs should be done IMO. A huge amount of damage could have been caused by this!
I am surprised it was even running! Surely you must have noticed a little rough idle?
You need to be a little more in tune as to how your car is running. i hate to ask this....but how old are you?

To be honest the car has been running fine. I haven't noticed any changes in the car since I bought it a month ago or so ago. I'm 21, but not quite sure how that's relevant?

Then it may have cracked when you took the housing off to replace the filter as plastic can become brittle over time. Get yourself a new hose and some carb cleaner and take advantage of this! Take the hose off and spray the inside of the throttle body with some carb cleaner and clean it up (don't press on the gold flap or spray past it). Then attach the new hose and step back and see how productive you have been!
