Thumbs down F'd up the dome light

New TL owner here, so of course 1st thing I did was order some hyperwhite LED's for the interior (with the help of the LED thread).

When I got to the dome light, the 2nd bulb crushed in my hand. Shattered into pieces, only the wedge part is still in there. I remember reading through one of the threads same thing happened to somebody and he had to take it in to the dealership.

I'm pretty much SOL and gotta do the same yeah?

I'd try some needle nose pliars first.

^+1. yup same thing happened to me when i was doing this mod. keep messing with it with really long needle nose pliers and i may have even used a small flat head screw driver...long story short i eventually got it out so no you dont have to take it to the dealer. when your doing the others just slowly wiggle them back and forth, eventually they will come out, good luck

Use some clear tape on the other ones. Use enough that the tape comes around to make a grip that you can use to pull it out. But yeah, use pliers on the one stuck in there.

That was actually the last bulb, all the other ones came out fine. I was using a rubber glove.

The needle nose pliers was my first reaction, but it seemed like the deeper I would try to dig in to take it out the more of the glass would break, since the wedge is glass as well. I didn't mess with it too much though, so I will give it another shot tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Don't go to the dealer! Just take some pliars, like said above, and take your time and figure it out. Those bulbs can be a bitch sometimes.

You'll be able to fix it. It takes some patience sometimes.

hmm some risky options:

Try using some hard clay
Try using a stick + superglue.

I would definitely recommend this method to anyone changing the dome lights. I got both mine out in couple minutes.

Yea, some scotch tape works wonders with taking out the bulbs easy.

So the only thing I was able to accomplish with the pliers was break the rest of the glass that was in there, except for a tiny piece. The metal rods are still in there.

At this point I could probably just stick the new bulb in there. Would that be safe with the remainder of the old rods still in there?

No dont do that, you should be able to get the metal bars out just keep working at it i have a good feeling if you leave them in there it will burn out the bulb

Yea same thing happen to me then i used tape on the rest of the bulbs and they came out really easy. What i did for the the stuck bulb that got crushed was i took some needle nose pliers and plucked it right out but then in the process i saw a spark and all the lights went out lmao . but all i had to do was replace the fuse lmao. Def. dont take it to the dealer.

I saw some sparks too, only then I took out the fuse.. Doh. Not sure if it's blown, Imma keep it out until I fix this thing.

It's hard to get in there with the long pliers, can't really get in there like that to grab the metal out. I went to home depot to see if they had any thinner pliers, but mine are actually thinner than anything they had in there.

It's dark out again so I'll give it another shot tomorrow but I don't have much hope

you can take out the whole housing there and work on it inside. i suggest doing that. I did the same thing, broke the bulb but luckily my local mechanic was nice enough to sit down and get it out for me.

funny thread, all this for such a small problem. some dental style tools would pull that broken bulb out in like 3 seconds

so I said fuck it, grabbed my flashlight and went on a mission.

but I got it out. I pried one of the metal pieces with a flathead and was able to pull it out with the pliers. But it did indeed feel like a surgery, cause I knew that if the metal broke off I woulda been fucked at that point.

Thanks for the support... My Rvinyls came in, I will let you guys know how I mess those up
